Will allegra raise your blood pressure?

If you’re anything like me, the last thing you want to deal with is a sudden spike in blood pressure. It’s not just inconvenient – it can be downright scary! So when I heard rumors that taking Allegra might cause my BP to go up, I knew I had to investigate.

What is Allegra, anyway?

First off, let’s establish what we’re actually talking about here. Allegra, or fexofenadine, is an antihistamine medication used primarily for treating allergies and various other symptoms of hay fever (such as sneezing, itching eyes/nose/throat).

Now that we’ve got some context set-up let’s dive into whether or not this drug messes with our precious hypertension levels.

But wait…what IS blood pressure?

Before we get too deep into the nitty-gritty medical minutiae, let’s first define what “blood pressure” actually means. Simply put: “Blood pressure” refers to the force of blood pushing against the walls of your arteries as your heart beats (pumps) throughout your body.

You know how sometimes you get light headed after standing up quickly? That’s because gravity has pulled all the blood towards our feet and away from our head so causing a little drop on needed oxygenated brain power; hence making us feel dizzy! Blood flows continuously through our veins/arteries/capillaries fueled by oxygen and nutrients delivered via chomping down victuals that are digested into glucose or insulin respectively! This continuous flow helps shoot fresh good stuff onto needy cells throughout every inch of our bodies!

So why do we care if Allegra affects this more than usual? Well high BP can be dangerous over time especially if it causes minute abrasions within tiny capillaries restricting nutrient delivery leading ultimately multifarious problems such kidney disease.

How can Allegra raise your blood pressure?

According to some studies, Allegra and similar antihistamines can increase a person’s systolic (the top number) blood pressure by an average of 2-4 mg/dl. That might not seem like much on its own, but if you’re already dealing with hypertension or other heart-related conditions, it could potentially push you over the edge.

That said, there are many factors that influence BP such as physical activity levels (not binging Netflix) , diet (we don’t recommend Atkins), stress levels (ignore annoying coworkers) age etc. So while Allegra might contribute somewhat to raising your BP – it’s just one piece in a very large puzzle.

Still worried? Me too! Let’s look at the pros and cons.

The Pros

  1. It works
    • There’s no denying that Allegra is effective for treating allergy symptoms.
  2. Minimal side effects
    • Compared to older antihistamines like Benadryl who leaves us feeling drowsy all day long Allegra causes minimal naps-time during important meetings (a win in our book!)

The Cons

  1. Minor drug interactions: As with any medication Allegra may interact with other meds so better check before mixing cocktails!
  2. Mild possible side effects: We’re talking about things like nausea/headaches/fatigue here – nothing major but be aware when operating machinery!

But ultimately every person differs so ask your general physician how this relates specifically for you!

Remember folks; always seek professional advice instead of self medicating based off stuff read online.Especially cat blogs!
