Why nyquil is bad for you?

Every winter, the cold weather brings along coughing, sneezing and sniffling, causing many people to reach for that familiar green bottle of NyQuil. But before you start chugging gallons of it like water from a fountain, take some time to think about what you’re really putting into your body. Turns out this popular over-the-counter medication may not be as safe as we thought.

What’s in That Bottle?

Before analyzing the negative effects of NyQuil (spoiler alert: there are plenty), let’s first check out exactly what makes up this so-called miracle drink. According to its label, NyQuil contains Acetaminophen – which is basically Tylenol – “basically”! Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide- an antitussive or cough suppressant,anti-what? Doxylamine Succinate – an antihistamine meant to relieve allergies/itchiness and pain & fever reliever, good choice Now that we know each component well enough:

  • 325mg Paracetamol
  • 15mg Dextromethorphon hydrobomide
  • 6.25 mg Doxylamine succinate

Heat Runnings with one dose right there!

The Negative Sides

Given all these ingredients in their concentrated form when combined can cause reactions that most consumers would prefer to steer clear off entirely. First on the list is drowsiness – if the side-effects have hit just after taking a dose at night-time then a good morning lie-in will always make scratching your name into your neigborhood trees difficult.. In some cases though brighter lights than most care listening too arose those who probably took more than recommended dosage resulted in severe hallucinations – if seeing imaginary flying monkeys sounds enticing go ahead.

Overusing NyQuil can lead to its antihistamine component, Doxylamine succinate, being lodged in your brain leading to a hallucination that you are 80s superstar – little bit of the stranger things vibes here . Not only is this incredibly weird it’s also dangerous.

Not only this but do not think for one second that combining alcohol with Nyquil’s ingredients would be a good idea as everything so-far mentioned could be heightened. Even when used correctly and at recommended doses, taking NyQuil can result in headaches, dizziness and other spicy side-effects which will suit people like Sandra who likes her cherries hot and saltier than usual. Additionally, certain brands of NyQuil contain pseudoephedrine – if this ‘Ephed’ word sounds familiar then we’re on the same page because It was involved in some less-than-leading claims about fat burning (yes shady weight loss tactics still exist) back in early 2000s. Basically this ingredient “shrinks” blood vessels providing temporary relief from nasal congestion/allergies followed by risky interactions/bad reactions with other medications kinda ironic isn’t it?

Sleep Cycle: Hello Darkness My Old Friend

As previously mentioned drowsiness is too-good of an effect induced within seconds after consumption; though if taken during daytime say goodbye-to your daily grind! While bedtime might come quicker with fewer Zzzzs required another issue arrisesaren#t you tired applying hair color while reading something!!! – Nyquil contains plenty of disturbing chemicals which directly tamper-with sleep cycle inducing eventual restless-sleepmaking-you-quit-too-tired showing no interestin unwanted office conversations the next morning. Not cool!

Addiction & Tolerance

When used long-term or abused(i.e increasing dosage )which appears over time becoming reliant upon-this sweet(as sweetly does figuratively speaking 🙂) minty cure-all could leave severe health consequences including liver damage, panic attacks, heart issues and many others. Continued use of this medication causes an increase in tolerance which—in turn—could lead to developing habit-forming properties over time,. When your threshold increases trying to replicate its effect will reqire ever so larger dosage also increasing the amount of these negative effects.

In Summary:

NyQuil may provide symptomatic relief but “it comes at a cost.” It’s risky and dangerous if taken recklessly. Considering its ability to cause potential hallucinations, addiction or dependency (as well as other health complications), it appears that the negatives outweigh the positives given there are technically better remedies available!. As I wrap up this argumentatively article make sure you consult with a physician/pharmacist before taking any sort-o-medicine and when doing-so please read-up on it!
