Why is the skin peeling off my hands?

Did you recently discover that your hands are lacking that smooth and silky texture they used to have? Is it now peeling away like a bad sunburn atop of Snake Mountain in July? Rest assured, you’re definitely not alone. A lot of people suffer from this annoying condition, and unless you work as an alligator wrestler or spend hours washing dishes every day (who actually does that?), there’s usually a much less insidious cause than the usual suspects.

What makes our skin peel anyway?

Our skin functions as an incredibly versatile barrier between us mere mortals and our gloriously disgusting environments. Under normal conditions, dead skin cells on the top layer perform their duty to protect us from harm before flaking off naturally to give way for new growth beneath them. On rare occasions when everything goes wrong though, too many dead cells slog or slough down at one time leaving our special layers open like…. can’t think of anything PG right now so insert derogatory pet name here…

Yes!, You guessed it! There are several reasons why your hand might start needing some sort of exorcism.

Environmental Factors

The environment plays one essential role in how alive or undead-looking our skins appear; whether it be due to hot/cold weather changes or overexposure to sunlight -the two factors most commonly linked with dryness.

Sun Damage

Those two things we call hands occasionally take a beating by catching all the harmful UVA/UVB rays out there floating around without warning. These evil suckers hasten cell ageing and damage DNA by breaking apart enzymes inside those little building blocks responsible for holding everything else together (How rude)!. That being said, once these attacks grow beyond countable numbers defeat prevails hence damaging various parts including collagen fibres which keep things looking young; this damage also triggers a chain reaction leading to your skin peeling, itching and ultimately crying for mama.

Weather changes

When the temperature dial turns up, so does the risk of dry skin. When it drops down, that’s when things get particularly crispy! The air holds less moisture like an empty paper bag (Ironic huh?), which draws water out of whatever liquid source is around… including our hands. With enough exposure time, they’ll eventually become about as pliable as a sheet of sandpaper; letting go of all hope -entering into phase one chrysalis AKA EXFOLIATION! and thereby causing noticeable shedding.

Medical Conditions

Dryness or peeling isn’t always down to external factors though in most cases these conditions are often benign or self-limiting (meaning they will disappear on their own)

Eczema

Eczema affects millions worldwide, appearing as red areas could be bumpy with some breaking out and oozing over time becoming crusty followed by patchy flakiness /or near permanent scaly patches; this chronic condition perishes gradually amid frequent outbreaks made worse under cold environments.(Last edited sentence)

### Psoriasis
With psoriasis you’ll maybe find silver scales stacked atop each other forming small circular spots accompanied by edgy bumps filled with pus at borders mostly found on palms not neglecting knuckles too in rare cause stretch heading towards fingers leaving trail-like surface free from normal characteristics scaling overlarge patches that come off subsequently perhaps paired with joint pain if serious sprang from last level accompanying hand swelling making average daily activities difficult

## Daily Habits

Keeping your hands looking fab starts EARLY!! A lot more than you realize goes into “lovely luscious skin”. Looking after yourself mentally involves being kind to oneself both inside & outside helps influencing better physical awareness increasing ability take self-care steps.

Moisturizers

Our wonderful hands need moisture- I mean we all do right? Investing in good-quality hand cream nowadays akin to an all-encompassing self-care routine, the difference it makes is quite spectacular. Oily or petroleum-based creams help lock in natural oils while heavy buttery types provide hours of relief; there’s no harm in splurging a bit on something which your skin will thank you for later.

Avoid Water

Initially exfoliating with hot water & strong soaps may be exiting but are also going to cause more damage than benefitting effects, Inasmuch as washing one’s hands is essential excessive exposure to water often scratches off moist laden cells increasing chances infection and dryness instead air-drying can give these tiny warriors time to take strategy breathe pump fresh oxygen rejuvenating our skins better.

Gloves

Whether it’s because you’re sensitive or spend some part of your day cleaning dishes for everyone else within eye-shot its imperative wearing gloves prior engaging this task putting on chemicals like bleach has potential stripping layers making them brittle forcing flaking off properties

Final Thoughts

Don’t panic if those lovely palms are looking less smoothie-esque than before: most times they’ll heal themselves. Keep track of when symptom flare-ups occur and speak up if things get too uncomfortable* inside (we won’t judge!). Playing detective is essential here trying identify possible culprits behind the recurrent issue -as aforementioned environmental factors-played their role getting doctor advice over control measures can save ample resources money, time.
Just ultimately remember taking care yourself helps builds up not breaking down self-image!(Last edited sentence)
