Why is my skin getting dry?

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and wondered if your skin was flaking off, congratulations! You’re one of many people experiencing the pain and embarrassment of dry skin. But what causes it? And more importantly, how can you fix it without resorting to a full-body moisturizer bath every day?

Too much buffeting from hot showers

Let’s start with an obvious one – taking long, hot showers feels amazing. Unfortunately, those high temperatures are terrible for our skin! The heat strips away natural oils that keep our epidermis (fancy word alert) supple and smooth. If you want to avoid dull-looking, scaly patches on your body (no thank you), try turning down the heat when showering or bathing.

Dryness isn’t always about stripping away oils by force (i.e., too-hot water). Sometimes there are other factors at play. Let’s explore some of these reasons.

Not enough Moisturizing products

One surprising fact: drinking lots of water doesn’t necessarily make up for using a lackluster moisturizer or not using any at all (mind blown)! There are ingredients out there that provide additional moisture retention like hyaluronic acid (but don’t get carried away thinking bigger numbers equal better results).

Climate change / use low-quality humidifiers

Yup, weather changes have an impact on our lovely epidermises (more fancy terms!). In cold climates or places where humidity tends to be low (we’re looking at you Arizona), staying hydrated becomes even harder than usual since a person’s sweat evaporates quickly under such conditions posing greater riskes . To combat tiny demon fans ruining levels further check out humidifier options cough cough Vornado Whole Room Evaporative Humidifier versus room-size humidifiers that work for about half a day before the water needs refilling.

Ageing, Genetics or Chronic Illness

Things we have no control over like us all getting old, genetics and certain medical conditions (who invited them to my party anyway?) also cause dry skin. Not much can be done there except skip ahead to our handy remedies section below!

Don’t worry! It’s not all bad news. Here are some practical ways to conquer dry skin without using up your whole bathroom cabinet.

Swap soaps out / reduce hot shower times

Using a soap bar that doesn’t contain harsh foaming agents should help keep natural body oils intact and when showering, limits shower time by 5-10 minutes top let your pores relax.

Use Oil during Showers or right before bed-diebyedie_AnymoreplusIwillcryanyway…

Asking you to rub oil all over yourself might sound weird/hardcore but oils such as argan, jojoba or almond in lotion can act as barriers locking in moisture while dabbing these on already inflamed/problematic spots (looking at you eczema) will intensify hydration overnight making morning less of an irritation (literally, zing!). In addition drinking lots of fluids (preferably water!) throughout the day contributes towards taking better care of you, afterall physiology plausibly measures the influx/outflow contributing to maintaining hydration levels through survival mechanisms capable dully avoiding depletion at cellular level..

Adding Retinol compound

Yup! Vitamin A is usually found in facials/dermatologists offices but retinOl-based creams/serums provide similar results – intense peeling causes fresh sensitive layers which absorbs goodness easier helping with ingfitrating nutrient-rich ingredients into tissue revealing smoother glowing sentients resembling something other than cursed ancestral death mask imagery manifesting within reflection.

The reasons why your skin might feel like the Mojave Desert are myriad – anything from dehydration to weather can cause it. But don’t give up hope! By checking factors that influence dryness (like soap usage or shower temps), adding in hydrating agents and incorporating oil-based regimens, we can make our skins glow AND keep scaling lizards winnowed down to a minimum.. Sorry guys, back to lizard-only chatroom now…
