Why is my aloe vera gel sticky?

Have you ever rubbed some aloe vera gel on your skin and been greeted with an unpleasant stickiness? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. A lot of people have experienced this strange phenomenon.

But what causes it? Is there anything we can do to prevent it? Let’s dive into the world of aloe vera and find out!

The basics: What is aloe vera gel?

Before we can understand why our beloved aloe vera gel sometimes turns sticky, let’s talk about what it actually is.

Aloe vera is considered one of the most potent medicinal plants in existence. Its leaves contain various healing compounds that have been used for centuries to treat wounds, burns, digestive issues, and more.

But how does all of this translate into that gooey substance we know as “aloe vera gel?” Well, after harvesting the plant’s leaves, manufacturers remove their outer layer to reveal the translucent inner flesh-also known as “the slime.” This slime contains water (about 99% by volume), along with beneficial sugars, vitamins, minerals (such as glucose , fructose)

The result is an odorless and tasteless substance — almost like jelly! But while many appreciate its cooling effect on the skin or scalp when applied topically during sunburns or hair loss treatments due to its moisturizing properties don’t expect them not being sticky! That’s where things get tricky.

So why is our aloe vera gel sticking?

Good question! Sometimes even high-quality organic brands will develop this weird property where they turn goopy at room temperature (or below).

There are several reasons why:

Reason #1: You’re using too much

You might be lathering up too much product without realizing it!. Keep in mind that less really is more when it comes down to personally applying skincare products. However, in this case, make sure to keep just the right amount on your finger-tips and try to apply them as evenly across your face or body!

Reason #2: The gel’s storage conditions.

While aloe vera may be a plentiful plant, that doesn’t mean all brands know how to store it properly. If the temperature where you store our favourite skincare product is often warm (think over 28°C), expect things not being so jelly-like. At higher temperatures than this bacteria can grow quickly if moisture levels are high at the same time. With more humidity comes stickiness!

Reason #3: Chemical constituents

A lot of different factors can change that feeling we get when using such products — including various chemical compounds released during production! Some forms of Vitamin C, used in skincare particularly for its (glowing-)uplifting properties have been found to react with certain chemicals from sunlight exposure increasing stickiness too.. Crazy huh?

How Can You Prevent Your Aloe Gel From Becoming Sticky?

Now that we’ve uncovered some reasons why your skin care treatment’s becoming gooey… let’s see what remedies do actually work?!

Here are some tips:

  1. Store it in Your Fridge: Above mentioned temperature issues will disappear with proper fridge control!

  2. Watch out for expiration dates: Funny enough, “aloe” isn’t quite as immortal as we’d like it be….

3.Before application consider Adding ingredients such as essential oils & lavender extracts : Not only they smell nice but these ingredients enhances cooling effect alongside helping reduce greasy leftovers

4.Apply-on-dry-skin This stuff does better job sticking onto dry spots versus damp immediate after-shower ones

Another helpful tip I’d suggest would be choosing an intact formulation/design for distribution style

Sometimes packaging allows moisture ingress which could lead messier applications down-the-road

Properly cared-for jars / small air-circulation pouches / airless pumps may often eliminate at least some of this issue

Some Common Misconceptions About Aloe Vera Gel

Before we end the article, let’s debunk a couple myths about our beloved gel:

Myth #1: It Makes Hair Grow Faster

While applying good ole ‘aloe’ on your scalp could keep that area well hydrated to provide an optimal environment for hirsute growth but that won’t necessarily add immediate magical effects to overnight froth!

Myth #2: Using “Alcohol-Free” Gels Disables Any Stickiness

Some research suggest that alcohol-based products used in fractional amounts can actually be all the more non-sticky as they evaporate really fast! Although it does deplete skin hydration levels
