Why have i fainted?

Have you ever suddenly found yourself on the ground, wondering how you got there? Don’t worry my friend, this is a common occurrence that happens to many of us. Fainting or syncope is a temporary loss of consciousness due to reduced blood flow to the brain.

But why did it happen? What caused me to faint like a little schoolgirl in front of every one of my colleagues during an important meeting with the top executives? Let’s explore together and find out!

Blood Pressure Fluctuations

One minute you’re standing up tall and proud, then suddenly your legs turn into Jell-O and everything goes black. This often occurs when our body experiences changes in blood pressure which can cause irregularities.

Orthostatic Hypotension

Orthostatic hypotension is what happens when your body doesn’t adjust properly from being horizontal (like laying down) to upright (like standing). It causes a sudden drop in blood pressure which leads to inadequate amounts of oxygen getting pumped up towards your big ol’ brain causing unconsciousness without any prior warnings.

Vasovagal Syncope

Now here’s something fancy for ya! Vasovagal syncope gives itself away by just its name – try saying that five times fast! But actually, vasovagal syncope results from strong emotional stressors setting off nerve responses that trigger drops in heart rate resulting again in decreased perfusion – cue lights out!

Dehydration or Starvation

This might come as a shocker but maybe-just-maybe not having enough water intake isn’t doing wonders for our bodies over time let alone temporarily making us pass out altogether!

Dehydration-Induced Syncope

Dehydration-induced syncope reduces fluid volume leading once again amongst some other serious things-leading rose petals falling around until we realize OH WAIT NO THATS US ON THE GROUND UNCONSCIOUS! But seriously, practice good beverage intake control!

Starvation-Induced Syncope

Oh boy this one is my fav – if eating lunch meant second breakfast by 9am the next day and dinner that consisted of a spoonful to keep things moving then we are sure in some strife. STARVATION-INDUCED SYNCOPE for all my hobbits who think they can just get through life on leftovers from the previous days’ meal. Guilty baby!

Cardiac Causes

Sometimes it’s literally your heart causing you problems and honestly, isn’t that just lovely?

Arrhythmias

Arrythmias are disruptions in normal heartbeat patterns (cues sound effect: DUN DUN) due to electrical signaling misfires which cause inadequate transportation of life-sustaining blood volume leading again – this seems familiar now doesn’t it?. Cue unconsciousness.

Structural Heart Diseases

But Mr Fancy Feast over here hand motions towards Dr Jones says structural conditions such as valve diseases or cardiomyopathy can also lead us down similar paths to faint town; where symptoms often show up unexpectedly without any prior warnings leaving doctors with more questions than answers.

Neurological Causes

Our brains constantly mediate our every move but what if something went wrong behind the curtain.

Seizures

Okay so these aren’t really funny except like two out of ten have quite funny snapchat stories out there – long story short seizures result from uncontrolled activities amongst brain cells causing rapid mental shift or movements leading to temporary blackouts phew dodged bullet there!!

Migraines

Lastly migraines end me when I’m thinking about nothing higher than getting home and curling into bed before Sunday night sets in, much less worrying about its life threatening consequences until I’m knocked off my feet (literally). Luckily syncope occurring as an aftermath of severe migraine attacks only lasts a few seconds-unluckily life starts up again once my boss sees me on the ground!

Conclusion

Fainting can happen to any one of us, so don’t worry too much! Take a deep breath, hydrate yourself and get back up. However, If you’re having fainting spells quite often and without warning signs then maybe contact your physician for further help. But until then let’s just hope we’re not the next ones seeing our own stars in broad daylight if ya know what I mean 🙂
