Why do you get night sweats when detoxing?

Are you tired of waking up in the middle of the night soaked in sweat? Well, my poor little detoxer, it’s time to uncover why your body is drenching those sheets.

What are night sweats and what causes them?

Before we dive into the reasons for sweating like a marathon runner without any actual running involved, let’s discuss what night sweats actually entail. This condition involves excessive sweating during sleep that can be severe enough to soak through clothing and bedding (yikes!).

There can be many underlying reasons why your bed turns into a slip-and-slide every evening. Some common causes include:

  • Menopause or hormone imbalances
  • Medications
  • Underlying medical conditions such as infections or cancer

But if you’ve recently decided to go on a detox regimen, then this latest symptom may cause even more discomfort.

What is Detoxification?

When you hear about ‘Detox’, sticking green smoothies down your throat and eating celery sticks might pop into your brain. However, there is so much more behind this word than meets the eye!

In reality, our bodies have an incredible ability to naturally rid themselves of harmful substances that we ingest daily—through breath, perspiration (oh really?), urine or stool. But what happens when those toxins build-up inside us?

We start feeling sluggish (Cue: Snooze fest), irritable(RAWRRR) , low energy (Gluggg gluggg humbug)and experience complications with skin issues(Hello breakouts from Hwll!). Hence arises the need for detox diets, supplements and cleanses which can help flush out these nasty chemicals(Sayonara garbage juice!)

The Different Types of Detoxes That Cause Night Sweats

With all sorts of trendy hashtags ranging from #juicing to #whole30, it’s no wonder that detoxing has become the cool kid on the diet block. While there are several methods of cleansing (First rule of cleanse club, don’t talk about cleanse club), here are some common ones and how they can contribute to night sweats:

Juice Cleanse Diet (AKA Liquid Overload!)

Remember when you were a little kid who would mix all their drinks into one cup resulting in some weird concoction? Well, people still do that as adults with various fruits and veggies blended in.

Juice cleanses involve drinking vegetable and fruit juices for days or weeks on end( somebody call Jack Lalanne) which is supposed to help flush out toxins from your body.

But here’s the rub: you’re taking in more liquid than usual so Your body needs something to do with excess fluids – hence why you sweat like crazy at night!

Also note that such rapid shifts in diet may cause metabolic changes within our bodies which can lead to increased perspiration during sleep (Add 2 fans next time).

Sugar Detox Diet (Sweet Dreams! LOL NOT)

Sorry sweet-tooths – this won’t be pretty .

Sugar is found almost everywhere around us (in obvious places like candy bars but also hidden temptations masquerading as healthy foods). When we consume processed sugar regularly, it puts a damper on our system by causing inflammation.
By cutting sugars entirely ,your blood-sugar becomes low which messes with your circadian rhythm (you know those internal groovy lights inside your body?) disrupting your state of peaceful sleep . Thus begins nocturnal drenching AKA Night Sweats

Low-FODMAP Detoxification plan(not only an acronym)( IKR?!)

For anyone who suffers from chronic digestive issues or IBS, this detox plan may seem like a godsend. The FODMAP diet involves eliminating specific carbohydrates (or fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides and polyols – that’s where the acronym comes from) that irritate your gut because hey-guess what-your stomach is not always pleased with every food you put in.

Unfortunately With FODMAPS being found virtually everywhere we go-leading to bloating , diarrhea , upset stomach etc.- this low carb way of life can lead to dehydration (So stock up on Gatorades!) fueling nightly sweats due to loss of fluids.

Lastly

Herbal Cleanses (Nature knows best…Until it doesn’t?)

With many jumping aboard the homeopathic bandwagon(pulling an Apple fell no far), herbal cleanses such as teas and enzymes might seem like a great way to cleanse out our system naturally!

However, taking herbs indiscriminately can cause changes in your metabolic system much faster than expected leaving you with all sorts of side effects including night sweating(Awwwww man)

Conclusion

Here’s a quick recap : Night Sweats occur due to excess liquid consumption during Juice Detox diets along-with abrupt dietary changes disrupting sleep patterns while Sugar Detox Diets causes nocturnal drenching through fluctuating Blood-Sugar levels . Low-FODMAPs dehydrates us which kick starts perspiration. However Homeopathic cleansing methods gone wrong pushes our bodies into overdrive altering bodily systems causing something as simple as night sweats!

The solution? Supervision(Duh!) . By discussing safe amounts of water intake and monitoring disruptions caused by sugar-detox diets or keeping tabs on any unwanted reactions whilst consuming herbal mixes so things don’t get too hot at night time (literally)

That concludes today’s lesson folks! Stay Safe and dry!
