Why do my fingers tremble sometimes?

If you’re like me, you may have noticed that your fingers sometimes tremble for seemingly no reason at all. It can be annoying, embarrassing, and just plain weird. But fear not! I’m here to give you the lowdown on why this happens and what you can do about it.

What Is Trembling?

Before we dive in, let’s define what trembling actually is. Trembling is an involuntary movement of one or more body parts – in this case, our fingers – caused by the contraction and relaxation of muscles. It’s also known as tremors.

Types Of Finger Trembling

There are a few different types of finger trembling that people experience:

Action Tremors

This type of tremor occurs when you try to make a voluntary movement with your hands or arms (such as holding a cup). The shaking usually stops when the motion is stopped.

Resting Tremors

Resting tremors happen when your hand is not moving at all but rather relaxed completely.

Essential Tremor

Essential trembling often shows up during activities such as eating or writing and may worsen during emotional distress versus motor activity itself.

These three types generally cover most cases of finger trembles but they could still be due to more rare factors such like drug-induced action myoclonus / peripheral neuropathy which will require professional medical help from doctors.

What Triggers Finger Trembling?

Now that we’ve defined what finger trembling is let’s understand some common triggers involving these falls clutsy episodes:

Caffeine

We all love ourselves an extra caffeine boost every now and then to get us through those long days but unfortunately large doses can cause jitteriness (i.e., shakes) which including finger-twitching. If only there was a way around it! We’ll unfortunately have to rely on herbal teas and decaf indulgences for now.

Stress

Of course, we can’t get off scot-free when it comes to being under stress levels that are too high which could lead to tremors in the extremities. While some take yoga or meditate others may choose more conventional methods like cancelling their meeting with “the boss” via a fake stomach ailment. Just an idea!

Fatigue

Lack of sleep doesn’t just make us sleepy and grumpy but also leads to shivering hands (it’s almost as if they have their own personality) while performing basic daily tasks making them even harder.

Health Conditions & Finger Trembling

There can be several health conditions besides fatigue/Stress and caffeine intake that might cause finger trembling:

Parkinson’s Disease

Finger shaking is one classic symptom of this neurodegenerative disease, particularly so called “resting tremors.” If not resolved early enough PD will likely worsen over time and motor skills will decrease rapidly.

Multiple Sclerosis

MS related muscle weakness often involves essential tremor symptoms due frequent movement activity causing existing shakes in fingers amplifying further nerve damage during those times. As this steadily becomes worse break-times become precious lesson then you know it?

Both MS AND PD don’t come with easy fixes unfortunately…

Other Causes And Risks Factors Include:

Now clearly not all shaking relates large diseases such as parkinsons apart from other healthy folks who had trouble sleeping (thereby inducing tyrembling). However there are still many factors contributing to shaky hands, including >

  • side effects of medication
  • hypoglycemia/low blood sugar
  • dehydration

If any accompanying signs suggest medical concerns though definitely seek attention earlier rather than later!!! In no way should concerns relating pain/frustration subside otherwise.

How To Manage Finger Trembling?

While we can’t always prevent finger trembling caused by health issues, there are some things we can do to manage it:

Mindful & Calming Techniques

Meditation or just maintaining an overall calm demeanor goes a long way in reducing our caffeine/stress levels – which could also reduce hand shakes.

Exercise

Regular physical activity helps regulate blood sugar levels and releases feel-good endorphins making us a lil’ less jittery than before. For those unable to into too much work-outs though moving around every now and then also works. Taking 20-30 minutes from routine deskwork breaks that encourages movement is extremely helpful

Medications

Medicines prescribed for tremors might show considerable improvement such like using beta-blocking drugs venlafaxine although this should be taken only under the advice of your doctor due to potential side effects

Bottom Line

Finger trembling can be annoying and cause distress for most of us but doesn’t have to continue disrupting our daily lives with simple interventions such as mindfulness techniques, regular exercise/physical activity or even adding more cautious segments enriched with fruits/nuts ( avoiding emotional burn-out).

Stop worrying about being labeled ‘shaky hands’, follow these tips provided and embrace “the shake” whether it’s rooted from natural human bodily systems or other ancillary factors!!
