Why do i feel weak and shaky?

Do you often feel like your body is about to give up on you? Are you constantly battling a feeling of weakness and shakiness, especially after engaging in physical activity or not consuming enough food? Well, my dear friend, fret not because today we will be exploring why we feel weak and shaky. Here’s everything you need to know!

Thyroid Problems

Let’s start with the thyroid gland – famously known as the butterfly-shaped gland that controls our metabolism. When it stops working correctly, it can lead to either hypothyroidism ( an underactive thyroid gland) or hyperthyroidism (an overactive one).

Symptoms of both include fatigue and weakness along with other issues such as weight changes, hair loss (cue hysterical sobbing), muscle pains etcetera!

Hypoglycemia

Another cause for feeling low on energy could also be due to a drop in blood glucose levels also known as Hypoglycemia.
As someone who has experienced this multiple times after ignoring their hunger pangs for too long i.e more than 2 hours at most! It almost feels like involuntary shaking takes over your entire body once its satisfied.

So folks always carry around some nutrient bars – none of us want someone mistaking us for soon-to-be-hibernating bears do we?

Not eating breakfast…Or lunch….

Ever decide to skip breakfast conveniently only to attend back-to-back three-hour-long meetings/workshops/classes resulting in no time even for snack breaks? Notice how by lunchtime all hell breaks loose inside your tummy?

You’re weak…lightheaded….can hardly concentrate AND if anyone asks what’s wrong..you just immediately snap at them out of HANGER!

When you don’t eat regularly throughout the day (Raises hand, guility 😅) , your brain doesn’t get the glucose it needs in order to function properly leading to the infamous s….p…a..c..e……o…..u………t.

Dehydration

Ah! We humans and our incredibly amazing ability to forget basic necessities like ready available drinking water. Dehydration can hit your system almost imperceptibly when you least expect it, causing feelings of weakness, shakiness or even dizziness lasting until its quenched with hydration..

Top tip: Think how plants droop without enough H20 replenishment? Perhaps keep a water bottle close by

Anxiety

Anxiety is one sneaky little beast that leads people towards nervousness resulting in physical symptoms such as heart palpitations, sweating excessivly (cue broken deodorant) , hands trembling uncontrollably!, chest discomfort etcetera.

Even though anxiety appears more like a mental state of being many individuals experience waves of unnecessary exaggerated /false beliefs about threats evoking an emotion that results in these undesired reactions happening within your body’s physiological systems.

Vitamin Deficiencies

The intense craving for sugary foods or energy drinks so relatable isn’t it?
Well, this could possibly be amongst the first signs indicating vitamin deficiencies.(Although let’s admit sometimes sugar just hits different!)

Deficiencies which commonly contribute include vitamin D and B12 .
Their absence may cause fatigue/ exhaustion from something as simple walking up the stairs but we know you’re too young to lead sedentary lifestyles curled up on plushy couches!

Caffeine – The Multifaceted Stimulant (we all love)

Sometimes I need only look at coffee before feeling re-energised because caffeine inhibits adenosine receptors momentarily preventing their regulation giving off an uninterrupted alertness allowing for some productive quick thinking while completing last minute assignments/projects or simply starting my day off right after years worth of sleep debt 😴Zzzz….

(Caffeine and I are buddies, believe it or not!)

But excess caffeine can also have the opposite effects by causing jitters , anxiety and a whole lot of other unpleasant side effects. Poor quality sleep, headaches.. Need we say more?

Lack Of Sleep

I know the drill all too well…late nights watching those interesting documentaries/show-binges.
Why is good quality sleep crucial?

When you persistently record less than 7-8 hours of sleep every night for weeks on end (trust me suppressing yawns cannot hide the symptoms forever!!) your body will resort to constantly remindng(simple right!) you through unusual fatigue levels resulting in even larger physical consequences eventually with long-term cognitive impairment if ignored.

Menopause

For all our lovely older women hitting that milestone stage of menopause – this one’s for you!

As hormones involved in your menstrual cycle begin to fluctuate leading up to menopause from lack of ovulations prompts an hormonal imbalance which causes feelings ranging from hot flushes (–YIKES 😱!), sweating, insomnia amongst others leaving you feeling far from yourself given these wave like mood swings occuring outta nowhere.

Top Tip: Invest some time researching natural ways instead medications available over-the-counter that truly cater specifically for what each individuals may be experiencing during this unexpected phase as everybody experiences different patterns

Conclusion: Staying Afloat Amongst Waves

The reasons behind why someone might feel weak/shaky may vary significantly caters towards attitudes(😉)! Simple steps including not neglecting basic dietary habits,easy/simple exercises involving getting outdoors – yes taking advantage of YOGA mats lying around under beds collecting dust/sweat stains shudder shudder( more accountability people guess i gotta bring them back into routine too), scheduling in adequate rest breaks,(Power naps guys!!!) encourages us increasing overall energy levels permitting us push through bad days /slumps with much more ease!

Keeping in mind that all significant changes take time and patience to commit, so the next time you feel low give yourself credit! You’re amazing and can produce results only if managed healthily within moderation.
