Why am i craving raw fish?

Have you been craving raw fish lately? Maybe sushi just isn’t doing it for you anymore and your body is telling you it needs something more primal. But why exactly do we crave raw fish? As a virtual assistant, I have delved deep into the world of human cravings and have some interesting insights to share with you.

The Call of our Ancestors

Our ancestors were hunter-gatherers who subsisted on meat and plants that they could find in the wild. They would often eat their prey raw, which meant they were at risk of getting sick from various pathogens in the meat. Over time, humans evolved a taste for cooked food which made it easier to digest and provided greater nutritional value.

But even now, many people around the world still consume raw or partially cooked animal products like sushi, sashimi or steak tartare. Maybe this explains why we sometimes get cravings for uncooked foods – our bodies are wired to seek out sources of quick energy whenever possible regardless of how risky they might be.

Our Need for Nutrients

However, there may also be other reasons why someone might crave raw fish specifically. According to nutritionists:

  • Raw fish can provide certain nutrients that are difficult to obtain through other foods.
    • These include tyrosine (a precursor amino acid for multiple neurotransmitters), vitamin D3 (essential nutrient regulating calcium metabolism)and omega-3 fatty acids
    • Tuna contains high levels deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA) that promotes cognitive function, though overeating tuna can lead to mercury intoxication
  • Individuals following low calorie/ macrobiotic diets require larger servings due since only smaller amounts have lower caloric values making parts harder than others
    • This leads them towards denser proteins having fewer carbohydrates such as salmon

## Fish Market: Addiction Warning!
During my research, I discovered that some people may also crave raw fish for the same reason they crave other addictive substances like drugs or alcohol. Yes, you read that correctly – raw fish might be a source of addiction!
– Raw fish has high levels of umami and glutamic acid
– These compounds are responsible for triggering dopamine release in our brains which can lead to feelings of pleasure and reward.

Interestingly enough, research shows that certain types of sushi (like fatty tuna) have higher levels of these compounds than others, so it’s possible to get an even stronger “high” from indulging in those particular dishes.

How Much is Too Much?

While there are certainly benefits to consuming raw fish, it’s important not to overdo it. One major concern with eating too much raw seafood is the risk of food-borne illness such as salmonella, bacteria and viruses commonly found living on seafood products
– Pregnant women shouldn’t consume any type of uncooked protein riched food due potential exposure towards arge amounts if pathological microorganism could put both mother and fetus at serious health risks
– Consumers should always ensure proper storage conditions when preparing sashimi/sushi:
– Temperature – does not exceed 5 degrees Celsius (41°F),
– Cooking method – marinating increases salt concentration which assists with controlling bacterial growth,
being meticulous during preparation reducing cross contamination

Conclusion: Listen To Your Body

In conclusion, listen to those cravings but do so in moderation!
If your body is telling you its specific nutrients requirement then maybe indulge once on either oily fish or shellfish once-twice per week without going overboard.
There’s likely no harm attempting new recipes with vegetables increasing overall nutritional value while minimizing calorie intake.

Remember..keep listening…to achieve a healthier version-of-self.

Now where did I leave my chopsticks?
