Who has held their breath the longest?

Have you ever sat through an entire movie without taking a single breath? No? Well, some people have done it for much longer periods of time. The human body is quite remarkable in what it can do, and holding your breath is no exception. People have pushed their limits to see how long they could hold their breath for centuries.

The Challenge

Holding one’s breath is not just something we do on accident when we’re swimming or trying to avoid bad smells; it’s a challenge that many daredevils attempt each year all over the world. While everyone seems to agree that diving deep under water provides ample opportunity for someone to hold their breath as long as possible– even this has been up for debate,

Many factors come into play here: age, gender, physical fitness (or lack thereof), pre-existing medical conditions (people with asthma should probably sit out this competition), and environment – cold affects breathing strength A lot of questions spring up from all these factors like “Is there any specific training involved”, “How does lung capacity work”,”What make humans pass out?”

Bringing about records put the tally at 11 minutes and five seconds by Malek Laleh-Haravi who reportedly dethroned Stig Severinsen’s former record back in July’20.. But before that crowning came San Diegan Tim O’Brien in 2016 managing only 24 minute which was still hailed pretty impressively .

Lets find out more about these attempts

Records That Have Been Set

Different countries boast different champions- In Europe three Danish men share two decades worth of records between them dating back until start of century last till date . Elsewhere in Asia Surjalal Sharma set new standards sometime ago most notably recognized by Limca Book Of World Record towards end last decade .

However nothing close recent times Suna Lubin won’t recognize lull longer than earlier discussed record holders above but believe it or not former Israeli swimmer Allan Zari set a world record back in 1978 holding breath for whopping twenty two minutes and immersing entire body under water.

The Risks Involved

It’s important to understand that attempting to hold your breath for extended periods of time can be extremely dangerous, ultimately leading to passing out which could result in panic ,drowning or worse(presumably) .

So know when you’re at limit panting gasping profusely feel dizzying, ringing ears then deary me let off pedal. Take safe routes- professionals never risk going overboard wearing goggles knowing they have limited time so why should you – Just don’t !

Finally here is an up-to-date list showcasing some professional deep diver apneists(not named previously) with their impressive records:
