When is the worst time to be in the sun?

As much as we all love a good dose of Vitamin D, there are times when getting too much sunshine can leave us feeling like crispy cherry tomatoes. The sun has been our number one enemy since its inception – constantly reminding us that it doesn’t care how hot it gets or what you’re doing outdoors. But with so many options for sunscreen and hats alike, just when exactly should we avoid being out there? Allow me to present: “When is the worst time to be in the sun?”

Midday Sun

The absolute WORST time to step outside without protection would have to be from 10am-4pm / 1000-1600h [I’m hip with military time]. This period of midday sun brings on harsh UV rays straight down from above your head.

How It Feels

You know those days where you take your first steps outside and immediately feel like you’re transported into some spicy habanero sauce-filled world? That’s midday heat for ya buddy.

Midday throws way too much power at our skin not only making it hot but also accelerating all existing rashes under/between clothing; Damn fiery sheets/legs! Make sure your windows/windows curtains keep everything locked up tighter than Fort Knox during these peak hours!

Skin Risks

It’s no secret that basking in this sizzling light will have long-lasting damaging effects on anything exposed. From wrinkles and burns to melanoma, by taking needless risks between 10am-4pm, why am I even trying?!

Just say ‘no’ my friend – just go find an air-conditioned room somewhere if possible!

Summer Months

Summer may seem innocent enough like a casual venture through fields blooming flowers. Unfortunately, summer drives more human existence outdoors wreaking havoc with prolonged time OUT THERE.

Temperature Range

Knock knock… “Who’s there?” It’s the unbearable heat! “Unbearable heat who? No seriously, it is getting hot out here.” With summer months bringing temperatures from around ~90°F/30°C or hotter in many cases; there is really no relief outdoors.

This kind of weather puts all exertion on hiatus since the body can only handle so much buffeting. Nothing beats lying down indoors with family members or friends, with your trusty A/C running. Just make sure nobody brings one of those juicy watermelon slices outside!

Proper Clothing

The optimal thing to wear during these months are baby burp cloths perhaps (an exaggeration?). But sweat suits and other skin clinging material would be a mistake given their tendency to trap humidity close to you like some blanket-wrapped magician trick.

Instead, opt for light colored loose-fitting clothes where air can easily flow through. That way any corresponding images right before bed don’t leave indelible marks!

Cloudy Days

Think that cloudy days provide ample cover from UV damage? THINK AGAIN.

Why UV Rays Are Dangerous

As we’ve learned over time while slurping away at milk bottles as babies – UV rays will not hesitate to rain terror down onto our vulnerable cells/layers burning more than they should.

Even though clouds do reduce some amount of sunlight hitting us directly – enough still shines through unfiltered targeting humans & leaving them damaged forevermore. Bad news huh?

Sunscreen Still Required!

“Hey man come join us for beach volleyball tomorrow afternoon!” NO THANKS BUD!

Clouds may be present allowing for glee/snickers but using sunscreen is just wise given ‘shade’ are inconsistent/not reliable descriptors confounding anyone inside/hiding underneath shade hovering items like umbrellas. Slap that SPF atop your noggins and apply LAZY person style aka reapplying it exactly one time throughout the duration of outing!

High Altitudes

Maybe hiking up to Everest Base Camp or climbing the world’s tallest building threatens a bit more than just your physical state.

Dangers Of High(er) Altitudes

Would you believe me if I told you that beaches aren’t even the most dangerous place for damaging rays? The funny joke is within ourselves, when we reach high altitude zones; aka increases in elevation – this interesting phenomenon causes increased amounts of UV radiation to penetrate skin. Finally a WINNING element for explorers & astronauts everywhere!

If venturing through mountainside trails or scaling extraterrestrial buildings EVER, bring along stronger sunscreen/protection which will safeguard exposed areas.

Snowy Environments

That family trip during winter break might make for some perfect photo albums but don’t get too comfortable laying down making snow angels…

A Higher Chance For Burns

Let me ask you this – do these outfits (snowsuits etc.) look like appropriate staples to fend off solar damage?! Spoiler alert: They are not! While there may be some actual cold involved out there (bringing us chilled relief), snow as well reflects sunrays back at our unsuspecting flesh – increasing risk from such exposure.

Snow blindness besides extreme burns can affect the eyes which limits other parts’ fun/hygiene/interactions etc.If given no choice but outdoors on an especially beautiful snowy day then stow finger/toe protections underneath layers with a healthy serving size of sunscreen all over body and limbs; Worth avoiding headaches later on!

So all in all folks avoid being oven-baked by applying due diligence during summer months and exposing any skins elsewhere between 10am-4pm . Also keep up [some!] protection year-round always remembering unpredictable conditions i.e cloudy days never truly fully stop shining pits flooding harmful rays at us.
Take good care ya’ll, see you inside!
