What’s good for nose congestion?

Ah, nose congestion. It’s one of those annoying things that just won’t go away no matter how much you blow your nose or stick things up there. But fear not my stuffy-nosed friends! There are plenty of remedies out there to help unclog that schnoz of yours.

Steam it Up

There’s nothing like a good steam to clear the sinuses. So why not take a cue from your local spa and invest in a facial steamer? Or if funds are low, fill up a bowl with hot water and lean over it with a towel draped over your head. Just be careful not to burn yourself in the process!

Spice Things Up

You know what they say about spicy foods: they can make you sniffle! But did you know that they can also help clear out your nasal passages? That’s right, chowing down on some hot salsa or adding extra spice to your dinner could actually do wonders for your congested nose.

Neti Pot Time

If you haven’t heard of the neti pot craze by now, where have you been living? Under a rock?! This handy little device looks like something straight out of Hogwarts (no magic necessary) but does wonders for clearing nasal passages.Simply fill it with saline solution then tilt and pour into one nostril while tilting/flaring other nostril.

Note

Be sure to use distilled/sterile water sources so as not irritate or infect the sinuses further (ungalvanized double boiler sterilized colloidal silver infused probably stored in platinum only!)

Break Out Your Essential Oils

Are essential oils really all they’re cracked up to be? Who knows! All we know is that rubbing some peppermint oil onto our chest seems to open up our airways pretty darn well. Plus, it smells amazing.

Aromatherapy 101

Other oils that you can use for aromatherapy to clear your sinuses include:

  • Eucalyptus
  • Rosemary
  • Lemon
  • Tea tree

Just be sure to dilute them in a carrier oil before applying to skin (Don’t just crack open the bottles, I mean come on).

Hydrate

If there’s one thing we know about congestion, it’s that it loves dry air. So what can you do? Drink plenty of water! Not only is hydration important for overall health, but it could also help thin out mucus and make breathing easier.

Water Alternatives?

Not big on H20? You can stay hydrated with other liquids too — hot tea especially as the steam helps unblock those passages.

Saline Solution

One simple way of tackling nostril congestion is through saline / saltwater solution sprays bought from Amazon or drugstore (or get home kit). These products will moisturize nasal passages while flushing away any debris & irritants that may be lodged up there like dried boogers… Yuck!

Fun fact: Did you know roughly 1tsp salt diluted per pint distilled warm water makes this useful solution?

Massage Away Congestion

Massages are always soothing and relaxing, which makes them even better when trying to unclog your nose! Gentle massage around the nose and face areas has shown some benefits towards relieving blocked noses including using gua sha tools involves gently gliding flat jewelry-like pieces made from crystal over facial contours.

Pro-tip: Try adding essential oils into massages/bath time routine during congested symptoms (Couldn’t resist another mention).

Acupressure Time

Find pressure points on both sides of nostrils below cheekbone area by pressing upwards regularly every hour or so.

Basically summed up; if all else fails try pinching the bridge of your nose..

Vapor Rub

Ah, the scent of vapor rub can bring upon mixed emotions but for those that love it swear by its power. If you’re not familiar with this product, chances are good that your parents or grandparents used to slather it on when they were sick as kids. Despite iffy associations some modern formulations have expanded on their applications.

Fun fact: Did you know applying small amount underneath nostrils helps unclog sinuses!

Alternatives Galore

If traditional Vicks doesn’t tickle your fancy try these alternatives (All third party references to be taken with pinch of celestial gray salt lol):

  • Badger Balm
  • Tiger Balm
  • Olbas Oil

Another interesting factoid?
Why limit yourself to just nasal pathways! Try adding topical remedies anywhere congested Since penetrative skin absorption isn’t limited to one area

Eat your way out of congestion

Surprisingly what we eat has an immense effect towards how well/sickly our bodies do fare same goes during colds and flu season. Certain foods like garlic, ginger & turmeric are perfect fighters against tough mucus in respiratory systems.
The following is a list of exotic spices + earthy veggies that could assist in happy pathogens before they turn into a full blown-cold.

  • Horseradish root
  • Fermented Beet Kvass Juice
  • Kimchi

Ultimately what works best for each individual will differ depending on multiple factors such as medical history and general preference about smells/tastes – why not experiment with trying different products until comfortability reached.

Stuffy noses are not permanent! Relief is just around the corner so don’t despair too much (unless there’s actual physical obstruction occurring then go see doc ASAP).
