What to do when you are on your period?

To all the women out there, we have an unwelcome visitor that comes every month – Aunt Flo (or as I like to call her, “The Red Scare”). She shows up uninvited and overstays her welcome. So what are we supposed to do when she pops in? Here are some practical tips that will help you navigate this unpleasant time of the month.

Get Prepared

Before anything else, it’s essential to be prepared for your period.

  • Stock Up on Supplies
    Make sure you have enough pads or tampons for your entire cycle. Don’t wait until you run out; the last thing you want is a bloody surprise during a crucial moment.

  • Have Pain Medication Ready
    Period cramps can be excruciatingly painful. Having over-the-counter pain meds ready can alleviate some of the discomforts left by The Red Scare.

Tip: If possible, keep them where they’ll never be temptingly accessible when your friend visits.

Navigating the First Day

The first day of your period can set the tone for how things would turn out during The Red Scare’s visit. It is essential to navigate it with these hacks;

Keep It Comfortable

On those first heavy days, wear comfortable clothing and shoes {life hack: avoid skinny jeans}. This tip will save you from unnecessary squeezing and constraining motions that could worsen any menstrual irritation or inflammation.

Hydrate

Get lots of fluids into your system in all forms because hydrated bodies menstruate better! Forget about sodas; go plain water!

Tip:Water helps reduce bloating caused by excess sodium found in salty snacks like chips/ popcorn etc., hence reducing feelings which might not make sense at this time.

Cleanliness

Keep yourself clean throughout with hygiene products suitable for maintaining good vaginal health – use the right soap and stay away from perfumed wipes. Be mindful of constantly changing pads or tampons as well to avoid any awkward scent or leakage moment.

What About those Cramps?

Period cramps can be incredibly painful, I mean, they hurt like you’re being given a stomach tattoo by Freddy Krueger without anesthesia! But don’t let that dull your shine; here is what you can do:

Green Light on Heat Packs

Some heat during this time will go a long way in relieving the pressure caused by gas and bloating – adding a heating pad (especially ones with soothing lavender infusions) over the abdominal area will ease up tension.

Stretch It Out!

A little light yoga &/or stretching at home—heck,even doing some cartwheels helps too– it helps release mechanisms which keep the feeling off balance.

Massage Is Another Option

Massaging specific points such as areas around ankles wrists acupressure releases hormonal strains responsible for menstrual pain.

Your P.M.S Checklist

The days preceding The Red Scare are characterized by woes commonly described under Premenstrual Syndrome( PMS) – fortunately there’s something for everything;

  • Bloating
    Get rid of bloaters by avoiding foods packed with salt & sugar{the two culprits behind excess water retention}. Instead select healthier options rich in fruit vegetable protein reducing discomfort experienced while moving frequently throughout the day.

  • Mood Swings + Insomnia Problems
    Mood swings particularly come fully armed with sleep disorders making all rational decision making impossible. Some lifestyle changes {that may include talking walks}not only help but also have positive effects extending beyond menstrual cycles.

  • Understand Food Triggers
    Sensitive tummies know that certain types of food signal an imminent disaster- Manage these avoid high-fibre snacks/-drinks dairy products caffeine consumption, chocolates alcohol spicy foods ensure smooth transitions without compromising the need for taste buds satisfaction!

Tip:So with these tips when PMS hits, you can have an action plan ready to manage every symptom.

The Debates About Sex

One of those things that never really is covered in conversation during school is sex and periods, but let’s discuss it;

Hit?

Having your period doesn’t always mean intercourse should be off-limits. With adequate hygiene practices at home or protected sex, both partners can experience intimate moments devoid of fear of leakage or any other awkwardness.

Miss?

But perhaps this may not sound like much fun – as sometimes all we want is just rest &relaxation without worrying about someone else rolling over and poking us with their erections!

Self-Care- It Is Not Selfish!

The ultimate gift you could ever give yourself during this time – take care of ”you” by indulging in self-care routines OR simply giving birth to a binge-watching date night {link to shows document}. Keeping good habits going creates space for minimized anxiety & lessens burdens allowing easier engagements between then n’ now.

Enjoy some downtime showers (cold ones are known stress-busters), keep hydrated ++ do literary anything besides pacing up n down~ peace out until next cycle!
