What to do if you feel like passing out?
Oh no, not again! Is it the heat? Dehydration? Or maybe it’s just my charming personality draining all the blood from my head. Whatever the cause, feeling lightheaded and dizzy is never a fun experience. If you’re anything like me, your first instinct may be to curl up in a ball and wait for death to take you. But fear not! There are plenty of things you can do (besides) fainting.
Take a Seat
This one seems pretty obvious, but when you start feeling woozy, don’t try to push through it by walking quickly or standing still. Sit down on the nearest bench or chair before gravity does it for you. You don’t want to find yourself suddenly “sleeping” on someone’s dirty shoes/
Breathe Easy
Deep breathing exercises won’t cure everything (including but not limited to) heart attacks and bad haircuts – sorry about that last one – they’ll certainly ease some symptoms of dizziness and weakness associated with impending unconsciousness. Try inhaling slowly through your nose for five seconds then exhale even slower; also using your nostrils.
Tighten Up
If sitting isn’t enough (and let’s face it: sometimes we need more than emotional support), crossing your legs and tensing up your muscles can help get blood flowing back where it belongs – preferably above chest level so as far as reaching those arms skyward should really come into play here/
Chill Out
Overheating & dehydration can both trigger fainting spells so cool off already (or alternatively-) warm attire too often leads us down this dangerous road). Consider drinking ice-cold water (add cubes)’, eating something juicy or making friends with air-conditioners
Lay it Down
In case of emergency, lie down in the nearest safe spot before passing out; also getting away from crowds is important when around people who don’t know first aid. Elevate your feet and try to relax as much as possible.
Fix Your Diet
Blood-glucose levels have been connected with fainting and may be corrected by snacking on something sweet or sipping sweetened drinks; however avoid come-too-sweet items that can make you feel nauseated , dizzy & exacerbate symptoms further – take for example Pixie sticks!
Take Some Time Off
Feeling lightheaded can sometimes signal a medical emergency, but more often than not, it’s just your body telling you to slow down. If you’re constantly feeling faint or weak (like at work), consider taking some time off (whether paid or unpaid…we are not licensed doctors here) to recharge so that yo do not end up meaninglessly typing away at a computer whilst soon regretting it due to resulting health issues like repetitive strain injury etc.
Don’t let dizziness knock you off your feet (literally)! With these tips at the ready you’ll be able to survive even the shakiest situations with grace (or failing that–a least plenty of humor!).
