What is vaseline for?
Are you tired of using countless beauty products that never seem to work? Look no further because the ultimate solution to most of your skin problems has been around since 1872 and it goes by the name of Vaseline.
The Origin Story
In 1859, an oil-drilling pioneer named Robert Chesebrough noticed severe burns on workers’ skin. He found out that a waxy substance was forming near the drilling sites, which would soothe and heal their burns effectively. This led him down a rabbit hole of experimentation until he finally came up with a product called Vaseline in 1872.
Basic Definition
You might have seen this petroleum jelly sitting innocently on the shelf at your local drugstore, but what exactly is Vaseline? Quite simply put, it’s just triple-filtered petroleum jelly – also known as petrolatum – which forms an occlusive barrier between your skin and external factors such as dry air or wind.
If you think about it scientifically, our skin loses moisture over time due to trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL), environmental factors, harsh chemicals etc. Oppositely, when we apply vaseline onto our skin,it acts like collagen proteins by locking in moisture, preventing TEWL from occurring and restoring lost hydration levels within seconds.
Using Vaseline
Vaseline comes quite handy whether you’re trying to tackle everyday skincare concerns or just keeping chapped lips away during winters:
Moisturizer
As already mentioned earlier,Vasaline works incredibly well as an effective moisturizer— especially for dry cheeks! In addition,it makes for excellent aftershave balm throughout any season except summer unless one prefers looking like oily meat on display.No flaunting with vaseline,huh?!
Lips
Do you often end up with cracked lips through winters even after applying tons of lip balms?Worry no more! Apply Vaseline over your lips to lock in moisture, stopping them from cracking.
Hydrating the Cuticles
Besides working well as an excellent moisturizer for skin, vaseline helps keep cuticles nice and hydrated— making it easy to manage during manicures. Nobody likes a rough appearance!
Intense Night-Time Moisturizing Mask
Want to wake up with supple and glowing skin? Easy-peasy.Put on some Vaseline over dry parts of your face before sleeping.It works like magic by locking in moisture all throughout the precious eight hours you spend dozing off.
Little Known Tips
The uses of this little jar full of wonders are countless; thousands swear by its effectiveness. Here are some unconventional ways people use Vasaline;
