What is sars?

SARS, or Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, is a contagious respiratory illness that gained worldwide notoriety in 2002-2003. It’s caused by the SARS-CoV virus and led to more than 8,000 cases and over 750 deaths globally.

The Origins of Sars

The first known case of SARS appeared in November 2002 in Guangdong Province, China. However, it wasn’t until February-March 2003 that the disease began to spread globally after an infected medical doctor traveled to Hong Kong for a conference.

Symptoms of Sars

Fever, headache, and body aches are typically the initial symptoms experienced during the early stages of contracting sars; however shortness in breath may also be present once fully developed.

In severe cases, pneumonia develops with difficulty eating or drinking due to breathing problems. This can escalate quickly without treatment

Treatment for Sars

Currently there isn’t any specific vaccine which has been used yet for prevention purposes against sars So treating patients with supportive care is vital such as keeping them hydrated infusion therapy if necessary! along with therapies concentrated on easing some common underlying symptoms like fever control.

How Does Sars Spread?

  • droplet contact
contacting contaminated objects then touching one’s mouth/nose/eyes.

When individuals who have already contracted this virus sneeze or cough they disperse droplets into their surroundings By getting available contacts within range (usually less than six feet or two metres),they can infect others regardless if those nearby are making use of facial masks(Which should always be worn when out!!)

Clothes , dishes , tables etc . This can increase speed & transmissibility further which public health agencies have worked hard at creating measures designed prevent such occurrences.

It produces deadly global pandemics. The last time we even so many people coming together and causing mass panic was during the old age.

Sars Prevention

Hygiene is key! These are ways you can stay safe:

  • WASH YOUR HANDS – BY THIS I MEAN EVERY TIME YOU ACTUALLY GO TO THE BATHROOM.

  • Use hand sanitizers often

  • Avoid touching your face or mouth with unclean hands – This one may actually be hardest because we touch our mouths & noses subconsciously

What Happened After The Initial Outbreaks?

Initial containment strategies consisted of enhanced case finding, isolation of infected individuals, and placing of close contacts on quarantine under strict medical supervision followed by continuous monitoring.

By July 2003, no new cases had occurred in months so it became highly unlikely there to occur within the public domain which then lead World Health Organization declaring an end to the global outbreak in just over a year since its emergence.

Fast forward, today epidemiologists argue about when not if another strain will emerge but they’re working around clock globally to prepare for it.

Fun Facts About Sars:

  1. The oldest known form of human coronaviruses were discovered in Egyptian mummies dating back roughly 2 million years ago!

  2. Furthermore all forms and mutations such as Covid-19 have been named after various animals that these viruses originated from, tigers , lions , goats even snakes ! Learning about their origins will help us comprehend nature’s impact better.

In conclusion,it’s important to keep up good hygiene practices regardless if sars comes back into existence or not fighting diseases is always rewarding especially when taking preventive measures like washing our teeth (e)veryday possible!.
