  • For cream products : If available, read the patient package insert. Do not take while breast feeding or when pregnant. Clean and dry skin, then use a thin layer on area. Do not take if allergic to peanuts or soy. Wash hands after applying. Avoid contact with eyes, inside of nose or mouth. May sting or burn after applying. Your condition will be monitored by your Dr. Do not change brands without checking with Dr.
  • For vial products : Avoid pregnancy, causing pregnancy or nursing. Don’t use if solution has particles or color change. Tell Dr if you get severe nausea/vomiting/diarrhea. Tell Dr ASAP if you get a rash on the hands/feet. Call MD for fever, chills or persistent sore throat. Call Dr if you have black stools or stomach pain. Avoid infections and recently immunized people. Skin may be more prone to sunburn.

    How effective is Efudex? The success rate of treating basal cell carcinoma with fluorouracil is approximately 90 percent to 93 percent. And unlike surgery, Efudex is not likely to leave scars or permanently discolor patches of skin.

    How long do you use the efudix cream? The dose of Efudex topical is to apply a small amount of the cream to the area that is to be treated, once or twice daily after cleansing. Treatment lasts 2-6 weeks depending on the condition being treated.

    How often to use Efudex? Regardless of purpose, treatment with Efudex requires topical application twice a day. Length of treatment time depends on the presence of malignancy and size of the treated area. Treat your skin lesions twice a day, preferably morning and evening.

The cream should not damage normal healthy skin, however Efudix will treat abnormalities of the skin that were not previously visible to the naked eye, and these abnormalities may become red and inflamed. Therefore it is usually best to treat an area and not spot treat. Correct. Efudex treats damaged skin.
