What is carmex made from?

If you’re anything like me, then one of the things that keep you up at night is wondering what on earth do people put in Carmex. Well, look no further, my friends! In this hilarious (I mean informative) article, we will explore and delve deep into the ingredients used to make your favorite lip balm.

Introduction

Before we dive into the unknown depths of Carmex land – let’s first take a look at what makes it so popular. Is it because whenever someone pulls out a small jar of it in public everyone starts drooling? Or could it be that perfect tingle sensation after application? Honestly who knows but boy oh boy I can’t stay away from my fix!

A Brief History

In 1937 Alfred Woelbing invented something he called ‘Carmol’ by melting together lanolin wax which is derived from wool grease with cocoa butter and peppermint oil – fun fact for ya there!!
It grew in popularity when Alfred’s son Charles started producing larger quantities before changing its name to CARMEX; today millions use these little tubs as part of their daily routine.

Now onto more pressing matters!

The Ingredients

Here are all the components that go into making our beloved Chapstick alternative:

Petrolatum

Petrolatum has a bad rap on health blogs just don’t let them scare ya !
This widely used jelly-like substance acts as skin protectants helping to lock-in moisture without adding any extra hydration… weird right?
This gives the appearance that Petrolatum may form an occlusive layer over your lips while also preventing moisture loss enabling super smooth results for us lucky users.
Made up almost entirely from hydrocarbons such as mineral oils plus synthetic waxes with some natural fats thrown in there too and BOOM: you’ve completed “The Petroleum Jelly Formula.”

Special Note:
While Petrolatum doesn’t add hydration to skin, what it does do is stop moisture from evaporating away; as a result, the area feels more hydrated than if you hadn’t applied anything at all.

Lanolin

Lanolin has been used for years in skincare products and retails as “wool wax” derived sheep oil. When cholesterol levels drop too low – this can harm your keratinocytes which are cells that make up our skin causing dehydration.
But not with Lanolin! As it contains one of the only natural sources of cholesterol meaning clever ol’ lanolin helps keep our lips nourished and helps maintain hydration naturally over time !

Beeswax

Bees are unsung heroes when it comes to Carmex production. Beeswax works perfectly thanks to its unique complex blend ensuring lip balm application results in an even spread covering every corner of our kisser :p

Cocoa Butter

This ingredient delivers intense moisture retention. Pressing some cocoa butter immediately reminds you just how unattractive dry skin is!

Special Note:
If there were ever an aroma that defined ‘heavenly,’ cocoa butter would be it.

It also has antioxidant effects due to high quantities of flavonoids adding an extra protective element against external pollutants.

Camphor & Menthol

Camphor stimulates nerves slightly desensitizing them with cooling sensation great for temporary relief on sore muscles or headaches we have all smelt Vicks Vaporub. Combine this with menthol (which aids circulation) provides slight numbing sensation aiding in pain reduction plus helping inflammation reduction by temporarily reducing blood flow!

Salicylic Acid

Working hard ‘killing two birds with one stone’; salicylic acid exfoliates dead + flaky patches on therapy amount Craziness huh?
This clever extraction also breaks down oily compounds occasionally clogging hair follicles promoting healthier, fresher-looking skin adding a sweet finish to our Carmex recipe.

Conclusion

A lot goes into the creation of lip balm and I, for one, am pleased that science has been able to use all these fantastic ingredients Literraly no complaints here because at the end of the day we get perfectly nourished lips in less than five seconds!
Carmex’s mix is both impressive and effective. With chemical genius and Mother Nature working together, we can give thanks that gone are the days where cracked lipstick was an acceptable look…in fact.. my tub just ran out – runs off screaming
