What helps soothe strep throat?

Ah, the dreaded strep throat. We’ve all been there—swallowing feels like sandpaper, every cough hurts like a thousand knives, and your voice sounds like a frog with laryngitis. But fear not! With some tender love and care (and maybe a few unconventional remedies) you’ll be back to singing in no time.

First things first: what is strep throat?

Strep throat is a bacterial infection that affects the pharynx, or the back of the throat. It’s highly contagious and can spread through contact with an infected person’s saliva or mucus droplets (lovely). Symptoms typically include sore throat, fever, swollen glands in the neck, difficulty swallowing and breathing (just kidding about that last one).

Get your cuddle on

Firstly—and most importantly—get yourself someone to snuggle up with. Studies have shown that affectionate touch releases oxytocin (“the love hormone”), which has been proven to reduce inflammation in the body (fact!). Asking for romantic advice from said cuddle buddy might also improve complexion during recovery (another fact).

Okay okay fine—for those without 24/7 access to a designated spooning partner—we’ll go into more detail:

Stay hydrated!

Long gone are those days of drinking from plastic water bottles–save turtles by using glass/metal containers instead! Hydration is important for keeping mucus thin so it doesn’t build up in your already sore-ish little throat tubes . Avoid carbonated sodas/seltzers because they will lead to increased dehydration–you don’t want heartburn as well do you? Herbal teas sweetened with honey are also great sources of hydration; remember – herbal tea does not require Ritz crackers/yogurt as cheese alternatives when sick (despite popular rumors). You see, honey is antibacterial, which helps soothe your sore throat.

Pro tip: in addition to limiting alcohol while sick, reduce coffee consumption as it can further dehydrate the body.

Gargle saltwater like a mad person

If you’re not scared of salty taste–gargling with warm salt water is an age-old therapeutic strategy for people suffering from all kinds of mouth and throat issues such as strep or dry coughs aka instant gratification. It works by reducing swelling and removing irritants that cause mucus formation – this way your tonsils won’t feel like kids jumping on a trampoline. Be sure not to swallow any of the solution–and try adding cayenne pepper, apple cider vinegar (aka switchel),or even some lemon juice into the mixture for added cooling/healing goodness. Mixing cactus juice into it might make it easier on those sensitive tastebuds as well.

Steam up!

While we cant afford expensive “steam rooms” at top-notch spas every time we are slightly feeling under weather –steaming has been proven effective in opening up nasal/sinus passageways; You don’t actually need anything more than a pot of hot water handy—few rounds of inhaling steam deeply will begin breaking down layers of congestion/moisturize those dry areas assuring relief from other ‘cold’ symptoms others may be experiencing! Essential oils such as peppermint/eucalyptus oil can also heighten the experience (add them in for double points)! Caution – blowing directly onto boiling pot may cause temporary bruises/disfigurement; proof-checked sources link “Lizard Skin” syndrome with poor management after exposure thereof (eye-roll implied)

Pop pills (but not really)

Antibiotics have always been popular choices when looking outwardsly/instant satisfaction regarding cold-like things. However, antibiotic scams regarding common colds/flus might be worse for extended use — Plus, treatment of unnecessary antibiotics now can actualy cause a strain on the body later when bad germs overgrow without this “rational” restriction. Over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen, however, are thankfully available to help soothe your strep throat pain.Doesn’t hurt being really careful with doses though- no one likes to explain kidney damage from neglecting small bottle write-ups

Consider NSAID Sprays

NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) come in handy sprays these days! They can offer relief to those suffering from unpleasant symptoms by directly targeting inflamed areas within their mouths/throat as these topical gels/static solutions focus on prolong effects; Relief indeed!

Incorporate Easily Digestible Foods

Typical food choices tend to involve fillers/crackers that do more than they need . Plus remember: certain spcies may not exactly cooperate well with fragile bellies (avoid buffalo wing-flavored crackers was my personal mistake!) Soft foods that provide nourishment while being gentle on swollen tissues are easy to discover everywhere:dairy-free smoothie bowls, soups consisting of pureed vegetables/lentils,fuit purees/protein smoothies;Don’t even forget about eggs and avocado toast (you read it right)! Proper nutrition is key in keeping flus/illness at bay!

In conclusion folks – take care of yourself & expect the unexpected ((then you will not be caught off-guard 😉 )). Like all sicknesses – Strep throats shall pass but what better way than faster recuperative methods–huh?
