What helps a kidney infection?

If you’ve ever had the misfortune of experiencing a kidney infection, then you know that it is no laughing matter. It’s like someone grabbed your insides and squeezed them so hard they turned into jelly (okay, maybe that was too graphic). But fear not my fellow sufferers, help is on the way! In this guide we’ll explore some of the ways you can kick that pesky kidney infection to the curb.

First things first

Before we dive headfirst into remedies, let’s quickly review what exactly a kidney infection is. A kidney infection occurs when bacteria enter your urinary tract and make their way up to your kidneys. Symptoms may include fever, chills, back pain, nausea/vomiting – basically everything short of feeling like Superman.

Fun fact: Men are less likely than women to get a bladder or kidney infection because men have longer urethras which makes it harder for bacteria to travel up to their kidneys–Hooray for long urethras!1

Now that we’ve gotten our anatomy lesson out of the way let’s delve right in!

Drink Up- Water That Is

Drinking water doesn’t directly treat an existing UTI or bladder/kidney infections but staying hydrated will ensure you pee more often helping flush out those annoyingly stubborn bacterias.

  • Aim for 6-8 glasses /day (no beers don’t count as hydration)
  • To spice things up add sliced lemons/limes/cucumber/ strawberries/mint leaves/citrus essential oils…whatever floats your boat.

Now with all these extra trips to pee remember do Wash Your Hands each time after using lavatory.

Comfort Meals Please!

We all could use comfort food now and again while treating illnesses It’s just something about having good food sit in our tummies making us feel warm and cared for that is soothing to the soul.

Note: These comfort meals aren’t going to cure your kidney infection, but they are easy on your stomach and provide a feel-good factor

Our Comfort Meal recommendations:
Chicken noodle soup (leave out spice or replace it with turmeric)
Mashed potatoes
Oatmeal (sweetened using honey/sugar)
Scrambled eggs
Bonus: Do chew ginger before these meals. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties which may help ease inflammation in the kidneys.2

Probiotics are Your Friend

Probiotics have been used extensively by healthcare practitioners worldwide as they support gut health via increasing our immunity against bad bacterias infecting us.

Here’s why Probiotic Helps:
– It enhances food digestion effectiveness.
– It maintains healthy immune responses for fighting various infections and diseases.

So, add some plain Greek yogurt/probiotic supplements/jars of pickles (who doesn’t love them?!) into your meal plans for an additional layer of protection against potential urinary tract infections.

The Cranberry Craze

Cranberries have gained popularity over time due to their ability at preventing UTI’s from recurring. But few know you should drink pure cranberry juice(unsweetened) not those sugar-ladden supermarkerts shelves drinks concoction .

Try this recipe out:

1 cup unsweetened cranberry juice(It won't taste like friendship FYI)
 Coconut water/pineapple/chia seeds/ lemon (optional additions )

Now all that remains is kicking back sipping on this delicious and effective-tasting mixture while imagining those pesky bacteria making their way down toooowwwn (…& goodbye).

Conclusion

Dealing with a kidney infection can be an incredibly uncomfortable experience, but taking proactive steps like staying hydrated, indulging in comfort food (the right kind of foods), incorporating probiotics into your routine and giving in to the cranberry craze will ensure you’re back to feeling like yourself before you know it.
Remember: while all these tips can help alleviate symptoms related to kidney infections if you continue experiencing discomfort visit a doctor for better care.
