What happens if you pop a blister?

If you have ever dealt with blisters, then you know how tempting it is to pop them. But before you go popping that blister, take a minute to consider the ramifications. Popping blisters can be quite painful and dangerous if not done correctly.

What exactly is a Blister?

A blister is an annoying bubble of fluid that forms beneath your skin. It typically occurs when there is too much friction or pressure applied to the skin in one area, causing the top layer of skin to separate from the lower layer. This separation creates a space where serum accumulates and forms a bubble.

Keep in mind that ’serum’ here does NOT refer to Dracula’s favorite drink!

Why do we get Blisters?

As I said earlier, blisters usually occur when we apply excessive pressure or repeat rubbing on our skin – this could be due to:

  • Wearing poorly fitting shoes
  • Sporting activities such as running or hiking
  • Ill-fitting clothes
  • Harsh manual labor

Also sometimes allergies, infections and burns might cause blisters (Who knew?)

Either way, popped or unpopped, best believe those extremely irritating bubbles always seem like uninvited guests!

Is popping your Blister Really Necessary ?

The short answer? NO! Unless your future survival depends on removing said bubble.

Blisters tend to heal better when left alone rather than being popped open. You see once they’ve formed under protective layers(because at least someone out there loves us), they stop any bacteria entering; which means by leaving them intact they’re less likely to become infected . Besides whats more satisfying than flipping back whole portions of regenerated peel from healing wounds?!

However if for some reason
you feel compelled,(and i’m convinced its mostly because people just love hearing something burst) you need proper knowledge before going ahead.

How should you Pop your Blister ?

It is important to note that popping a blister can be very painful and may cause infection through harmful bacteria; which means utmost caution has to be exercised depending on the size of said bubble. Remember safety first! Here are some tips

  1. Sterilize the area
Using an alcohol swab, sanitize in and around the area of interest .

  2. Get rid of excess fluid
With a sterile scalpel / sharp blade or needle make an incision at the edge of your blister as close to your skin as possible.

  3. Apply antiseptic and cover it Meticulously
Clean again with an antiseptic such as iodine ensuring no cotton fibers adhere then proceed to neatly bind the peeled flap with gauze(dressing)

It’s worth noting that blisters like any other natural invasions usually heal over time but if intense care isn’t taken, they would likely persist.

What Happens After you Pop a Blister?

Instant relief right?! (Not!) Depending on how severe these bubbles are, popping them could result in redness, pain and sometimes even spreading.(Looks like Impetigo seen worse days)

  • The possibility of infections become higher once popped whether by your nail, paper clip or a flaming dart ;since those instruments might not be completely sterilized beforehand.

  • Without proper aftercare measures despite popping anything less than gigantic, blisters refilling themselves – this takes up extra recovery time .

  • Infected blisters often lead to pus-filled lesions so please stay away from popping unless absolutely necessary while taking preventative steps seriously when called upon for action

Just thinking about it? Zap yourself back into reality!

“Don’t even THINK ABOUT IT!”

Finally…just take good care!: )
