What does the new ds look like?

So, you’ve heard there’s a new Nintendo DS on the horizon? Well, aren’t you just fancy! Let me guess, you’re one of those people who doesn’t mind paying top dollar for the newest gadgets and gizmos. Hey, I’m not judging–I’m actually jealous. But before you break out your wallet and preorder that shiny new handheld console, let’s take a look at what it really looks like.

The Basics

First things first: what exactly is this new DS called? Well, the official name has yet to be announced (surprise, surprise), but for now it’s being called “Nintendo Switch Lite.” Ooh la la! Doesn’t that just sound tres chic?

Anyway, here are some quick bullet points about what we know so far:

  • The Nintendo Switch Lite will only function as a handheld device; meaning it won’t have an HDMI port or detachable Joy-Con controllers.
  • It’s slightly smaller than its predecessor – measuring 8.2 x 3.6 inches compared to the original Switch’s 9.4 x 4 inches.
  • Unlike its previous iteration which boasted a kickstand feature for standing up play in table-top mode – this design does away with it.
  • One upside/downside (depending on how hard-core of a gamer you are) is that although existing games can be played on this version they must have compatible handheld modes or require additional Joy-Con Controllers.

Design & Colors

So we’ve established that the Nintendo Switch Lite is essentially very small besides losing some features from the old-fashioned-dated-original-Switch. So apart from looking adorable, how else does this thing stand-out design-wise?

For starters – It will come in three colors: yellow/gray/turquoise but more shades might become available down-the-line depending upon demand)which are all reminiscent of the bright and playful colors that Nintendo has always been known for.

Here are some other notable changes:

  • The Joy-Con buttons on each side will be replaced by a traditional D-pad. Thank goodness! We can finally play those retro games properly!
  • The Switch Lite’s body is smooth, shiny plastic instead of the textured matte finish seen in previous models–mind you, they’re not here to cater to your tactile fixations folks.
  • And speaking of handheld gaming – as previously stated these designs offer no detachable joy-con capability or dock compatibility which prompts people to exclusively purchase this updated model if they wish for more mobile-centric hand-held-console advanced operations.

Battery Life

One important feature when it comes to any “smart” device is battery life. Thankfully though the official website confirms we can expect longer game time hours using heavier but popular titles such as ‘The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.’ According to Nintendo: “Battery life varies depending on the games you play. For example, the battery will last approximately 3 hours for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” whereas “Battery life for watching video content is approximately 4 hours.”

This may seem vague or concerning (especially with mobile devices), but don’t forget it’s integral software and hardware working in tandem, meaning updates and other system-tweaks might make all-the-difference overtime (at-least cross-your-fingers).

So there you have it–a quick rundown (or shall I say jog) about what makes new NINTENDO SWITCH LITE different from its predecessor. Is it perfect? Maybe so! Are there downsides? I mean…sure?

Real talk, though; ultimately whether one should invest their hard earned currency into this product depends upon a number factors mainly including budget restraints/how heavily used/play modes desired/available savings….and maybe just pure nerdy-enjoyment fueled enthusiasm.

But hey – who says money can’t buy happiness? Especially with Nintendo Switch Lite In all of its dainty, cheerful aesthetics/engaging game titles – May the best-handheld console win in this race. Go ahead and switch to it today!
