What do you put on stye on your eye?

Styes on the eyes are pesky little spots that can be painful and unsightly. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered – pun intended. In this guide, we will explore all the remedies and treatments that’ll help alleviate styes so you can get back to watching your favorite TV shows without any discomfort.

What is a Stye?

Before diving into the remedies, it’s important to identify what exactly a stye is (just in case). A stye also called hordeolum, is an inflamed sebaceous gland or hair follicle on the edge of your eyelid that looks like a swollen bump resembling a pimple filled with pus inside.

In case if you’re wondering how does one get it, well there are several reasons ranging from going out in windy weather without proper eye protection(wink-wink) , leaving makeup overnight, exposure to germs through foreign objects like used towels or same old makeup brushes etc.

This tiny yet painful spot tends to form under your lower lash line (called Internal Hordeolum) or upper lash line (External Hordeolum), but regardless of its precise location just bear in mind they ain’t good news!

Remedies for Treating Styes

Luckily there’s no shortage of home remedies available for treating these bothersome bumps:

Warm compresses

One of the best things you can do which almost everyone suggests using warm compress aka “carrot-eyeball treatment” lol . Run hot water over some paper towel and apply this warm cloth gently against closed eyelids several times daily (use new ones each time) until it dissolves away.

Tea bags

Tea has powerful anti-inflammatory properties because’…well science! Moisten green/black tea bag with sterile water, put it over affected eye(s) and press it slightly for 5-10 minutes two or three times a day. As well as helping with redness and pain, it would be kind of cool to say you’re tea bagging your eye.

Aloe vera

Extract some fresh gel from an aloe leaf and apply to the affected area up-to thrice daily (Use freshly scraped gel each time), this should help reduce swelling caused by inflammation.

Sulphur soap

Taking a shower might not be such a hassle after-all! Simply use sulphur soap (available online)while showering at-least once daily until symptoms disappear. Can’t guarantee good fragrance though!

Essential oils

There are several essential oils known for their stye-fighting properties .Add some lavender or chamomile oil to warm water caressing that inflamed lid with clean Cotton swab couple of times per day. Don’t allow any spillage otherwise you’ll end up smelling like someone rolled you in flowers!(not saying its bad tho)

OTC treatments

There are plenty of over-the-counter products readily available too, medicated eyedrops containing antibiotics like erythromycin, sulfonamide etc , which can provide fast relief not only in fighting styes but also helpful against lotsa other common eye infections. Antibiotics all-around sounds better than ever!
Arent we lucky?

What Not to Use on Your Stye

Okay so now that everyone knows what’s beneficial against it, perhaps even more important is knowing what precisely NOT TO DO when managing those nasty little things:

  1. No makeup: Refrain from putting makeup around/below the infected eyelash hair follicle – no matter how tempting it may seem due to social outings just avoid applying ANY cosmetic product nearby.
2.Trip Over Them : yes as weird as it might sound try avoiding physical strain especially big jerks while jogging, wrestling,or jiu jitsu i mean who does that with stye anyway?
3.Picking and popping: Do not try to pop it off! Let us repeat, do not even think about squeezing out the inner pus (Don’t ya wanna see what comes out of it?)If done so It can cause contamination which might result in spreading infection to other parts around your eye, causing more irritation/soreness , or full-on abscess – this is one situation where let sleeping dog-eyes lie.
4.Toilet Paper : As a general rule of thumb avoid blowing nose too hard or wiping eyes with toilet paper cuz you never know what bacteria-infused particle of tissue may be transferred over these already venerable spots they are basically asking for trouble.

When to See a Doctor

At times, home remedies are simply insufficient. If styes continue bothering and keep growing larger than usual then we’d suggest you take the following hygiene measures in order:

1) Visit an ophthalmologist
2) Get antibiotic medication
3) Maintain better Hygiene

By consulting your doctor before getting yourself any medication/ antibiotic therapy regimen tailored specifically for removing such irritations and uncomfortable foreign objects from under the eyelids thus avoiding further harm to delicate part surrounding our vision organs( Just don’t forget those eye drops… Ever!)

Final Thoughts

In conclusion treating Styes at home is fairly simple if top-notch hygiene practices are taken into account along with usage of household items like warm compresses etc. Hence as long as primary precautions against things like makeup, trampling, squeezing & using nonsterile material on sensitive skin areas were elaborated earlier above then there should be no reason left to worry about our “Stye-Sypmtoms”

One more thing please share tips and tricks so that others can also have quick relief from such subconjunctival angst!
