What causes pain on the inside of your elbow?

If your elbow starts to hurt on the inside, you might be wondering what could be causing it. The answer is not always straightforward, but there are a few possible explanations. Read on for some ideas and potential treatments – or just keep suffering per usual.

What part of my elbow is hurting?

Before delving into potential causes, let’s get anatomical for a hot second (don’t worry, we’ll keep it light). The humerus, more commonly known as the upper arm bone, has an L-shaped end that fits into a socket in your shoulder blade. This socket is called the glenoid fossa because scientists apparently love fancy terms (two stars). Meanwhile at its other end pointy bit things called ‘epicondyles’, one outside and one inside—the latter being exactly where we’re zoning in here.

Pro-tip: impress your friends by casually referring to “my medial epicondyle”.

Medial Epicondylitis aka Golfer’s Elbow,

When most people think about inner elbow pain/ soreness they will immediately reference their own experience with golfers’ elbows without necessarily knowing anything about golf, the game definitely enjoying considerable amount playtime during lockdown.Golfer’s elbows refer specifically to tendinitis (inflammation)  of those flexor tendons and muscles which facilitate bending  the wrist towards direction of our palm.As opposed to Tennis related outer elbow pain which involves extension movements .So if you slept funny & wake up with insidious discomfort go check that out l.Fun fact: despite its moniker less than %5 cases actually involve individuals who ever held club(none taken)

Diagnosis :

Doctors can almost always detect this via physical exam—asking patient rotate forearm while keeping elbow straight Orby pressing affected area which would likely elicit the pain that has brought one to their office or clinic. That said, ultrasounds are sometimes useful as tendons can be hard to detect by hand alone.

Joint Issues

Because the elbow joint itself is located near the inner part of your arm— if you experience pain in this area,it could very well be related to arthritis, osteoarthritis linked with degeneration which comes with age.

Other possibilities include:

  • Dislocated bones or bone spurs inside elbow

Diagnosis:

An x-ray would definitely come handy here .

Fungal Infections

While many people realize that fungi like Athlete’s foot and ringworm can cause skin problems, they don’t always know about infections affecting nails. These same critters may irritate your elbow and its surrounding tissues ,Cause a rare form of fungal infection known as Sporotrichosis(try pronouncing it thirteen times fast). This type of painful occurrence more commonly affects gardeners who have been nicked by thorn on rosebushes than say musicians wielding guitars(catch our drift) But always good so have something unexpected new muscles hat hasn’t experienced before .So never rule out fungus-related sources when dealing with bodily discomfort !

Pro tip : Regular showering Is an effortless way to protect yourself from various unpleasantness.
But still wear gloves! Anytime spent gripping dirt needs extra fortification even if does lead them looking straight outta Sci-fi movie.sets off metal detectors & leaves unsavoury residue thank
me later.Clunky cyborg hands are not exactly receiving an enthusiastic response these days pandemic& all (end rant)

Diagnosis

Doctors will likely order a fungal culture test if they suspect sporotrichosis; biopsy results also help confirm findings. Blood tests are another option, looking for presence and levels of specific antibodies.Hopefully, you won’t find somebody sporting some superpowered antifungal solution ,often used for the most resistant organisms only after much suffering on patient’s end, cost and prohibitive side effects.

Triceps Pinched Nerve aka ‘Radial Tunnel Syndrome’….

Apart from medially located epicondyles, we will also shine a little light towards nerve-related possibilities with extension lock state known as radial tunnel syndrome. This results from inflammation of nerves that run all the way down to your hand — specifically around the elbow.Apart from throbbing sensations it often elicits dull discomfort/pain .

Diagnosis

A physician can carefully examine you and order other tests if they suspect RTS or arthritis; keep in mind though, diagnosing complex conditions related to nerves is never be straightforward so repeated examinations may be requested

Pro tip : Avoid sudden unaccountable movements like fast jerking when pursuing workouts . Sudden motion neglect is no joke

This list isn’t exhaustive by any means, but hopefully it gives you some general ideas about what could cause inner elbow pain. The upshot? If you’re able to isolate its root within reason & offer your person healing time nad requisite anti-inflammatory etc.-even something normally likely regarded less serious–like strains—can indeed recover over a couple days.Unless one lives with an alternative persona predicated on poultristic tendencies(don’t ask); Stepping away game/ repetitive motions necessary for an ample period should improve symptoms.Grab ice!(or even heat)for some soothing respite. Wearing appropriate gear&extra supportive cushioning throughout day makes worthwhile difference.Remember,a little self-care goes long way,in recovery, equally so whilst proactive preventive measures..Now go take break if had too difficulty absorbing information (wink).
