What causes breast enlargement and tenderness?

Breasts come in all shapes, sizes, and levels of perkiness. Sometimes they are the pride and joy of their owners, other times they demand attention with a vengeance that borders on harassment. One thing’s for sure – breasts can be fickle creatures. Sometimes they’re simply not content to just hang around minding their own business; sometimes they decide to expand and become as obnoxious as possible about it.

Breast enlargement (also known as breast hypertrophy) is an increase in breast size that often occurs during menstrual cycles, pregnancy or while on birth control pills.

So why do some women experience this expansion set without warning? Here are a few reasons your breasts may go from best buds to troublesome twins:

Hormone Happenings

Hormonal changes affect many parts of our bodies including our breasts. Estrogen plays a significant role in both puberty-related growth spurts and pregnancy-related adaptations. It helps trigger increased blood flow resulting in larger breast tissue fullness which can cause discomfort or tenderness.

Another hormone called progesterone contributes by stimulating the development of milk ducts causing further expansion in the mammary glands leading to even more boob-tastic growth sprees!

Weighty Matters

Sorry ladies but gaining weight does mean bigger boobs! Breasts contain fat cells so when you gain weight then say Hallelujah!, thank your boobs because well there aren’t any other body parts thanking you for those extra donuts!

On another note though rapid weight loss could lead you back into two flattened pancakes instead- Oh dear ‘they really are moody little buggers aren’t they’!

Medications Messing With You

Some medication such as hormonal based contraceptives introduce additional dose of estrogen which leads to an increase swelling due to water retention mostly manifesting itself especially in your mammary glands- hence adding inches to the cup size!

Not into specific medication? Well then blame it on allergies as common antihistamines contain hormonal compounds and can alter your hormone levels leading again, you guessed it – To breast enlargement.

Pregnancy’s Perks

Pregnancy has become known to have many perks including but not limited to being showered with gifts for someone else, food cravings gone wild, and that special ‘pregnancy glow’. Which of course cannot be complete without talk about a new wardrobe right?

Well expectant mothers often experience fullness or heaviness in their breasts owing to lactation preparation ahead of childbirth. The breast glandular tissues expand which to be honest might really come in handy once baby needs that milk!

Did we mention pregnancy boobs.. Oh yes they exist (Jaw dropping stuff)! New moms brace yourself though, enjoy them while they last because breastfeeding will literally take all the fun out leaving ’em sagging… yikes let’s skip that image!

If only one side talks…

“Hey other boob what’s good!” This is wonderful if everyone likes the same attention coming from both sides but…what if only one boob starts expanding? A typical asymmetry incident would include just one growing painfully larger than its other half resulting in an awkwardly lopsided look…The conversations “I think my left boob just got richer” – said no woman ever!!

On a more serious note however this could signify an underlying condition such as growth or abnormal swelling so ladies if things get disproportionate seek professional advice immediately.

Cysts are clearly running rampant

Cysts within the breast tissue can cause discomfort, tenderness and pain especially when touching or applying pressure on this area. There are two types fibroid cysts made up largely of fibrous tissues filled with fluid possibly lending themselves also painful inflammation otherwise referred commonly as mastitis; Or even worse still some can prove to be malignant over time.

Don’t wait for a random tingle, regular self-exams and screening tests are important to identify any concerning developments. Is the reminder set? Perfect let’s all pat ourselves on the shoulder for advocating early detection shall we?

The First ‘Uncomfortable’ Introduction!

Right when puberty is sinking in and forming an awkward pudgy phase marked with bad haircuts & bell-bottom pants, its during this glorious time that breasts have gained themselves a name –Puberty boob syndrome! Our dear hormones decide it’s about high-time women got introduced breasts so those mysterious packets start developing out of nowhere even as far back as age 8 (Guys reading this forget you ever read that)!!

First things first: It’s normal! This process develops because the body starts producing more female hormones specifically estrogen which leads into an increase in breast tissue meanwhile progesterone comes around later playtime basically stimulating mammary gland growth causing changes like dividing cells leading to extra fatty tissues making them visibly stand-out per say!

Although discomfort will vary among individuals from minor tenderness or nipple sensitivity up till pain placing restriction on everyday activities cups are undersized thereby posing threat at fitting rooms situations especially knowing each bra brand has different size standards – ‘Oh what fun’.

If none of these options fit your case then maybe ladies one word surgery… come again?! Oh never mind I was just air reading something else somewhere casually… awkward silence
