What can i take to ease gastritis pain?

If you suffer from gastritis, your stomach’s lining may be inflamed or irritated. That inflammation can cause all sorts of unpleasant symptoms like bloating, nausea, and pain in the upper abdomen. While changing your diet and lifestyle habits can help prevent future flare-ups, sometimes you just need quick relief.

Luckily there are many over-the-counter remedies that can help soothe discomfort related to gastritis. Here are a few options to consider:

Antacids

Antacids are the most commonly used medication for easing heartburn and indigestion caused by gastritis. They work by neutralizing stomach acid that could further irritate the sensitive tissues in your stomach.

Some of the most popular brands you might recognize include Tums®, Pepto-Bismol®, Rolaids®,Zantac (which is temporarily no longer available due to quality issues), among others.

Although antacids typically come in pill or chewable tablet form, some also come as liquids or dissolvable powders…sounds fancy right?

Though generally safe for occasional use, it’s worth noting that antacid overuse (more than once a day) could lead to more serious digestive problems such as diarrhea or constipation.

H2 Receptor Blockers

H-what-now?! Yes my friend,it’s just a fancy way of saying another group of medications :)! These blockers prevent histamine (a type of hormone responsible for promoting inflammation) from latching onto receptors on cells within your stomach walls— which ultimately decreases how much basal acid is produced!

Beta-Blockers sound similar but we won’t be discussing those today phew

H2 receptor blockers common names are: Pepcid, Tagamet HB; Zantac 75(or its counterpart): this option prevents certain types Of meals induced Heartburns with minimal side effects.

While H2 receptor blockers typically take a bit longer than antacids to start working, the upside is that they provide longer-lasting relief.

Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs)

Proton pump inhibitors decrease acid production in your stomach too by shutting down “pumps” within cells lining your small intestine— hello science!

This type of medicine not only eases symptoms like heartburn but can also work over more prolonged periods to disallow continuous inflammation buildup

Prescription PPIs such as Nexium may be offer endoscopy-proven results better than any other OTC medication so are usually considered for refractory cases or severe gastritis. Some OTC examples include:

Prilosec, Prevacid 24HR, Zegerid OTC, among others. just ensure you read their dosage and general storage requirements on the pack.

One downside though? Unlike antacids or h2 blockers, daily use of proton-pump inhibitors could lead to nutrient deficiencies such as vitamin B12 deficiency due to decreased absorption leadingto anemia , and most likely breakups with kale and spinach…OR NOT?!

Other options

Although chemical formulations all differ a little regarding metabolising speed ,longevity period before wearing off etc dont forget There’s no one best product!

If none of the above sounds appealing/ suffice try discussing safer alternatives below with your doctor:

  • Misoprostol;a prostaglandin E1 analogue that protects both gastric mucosa from damaging agents.

  • Alginic acids(combination products) like Gaviscon interacts with surrounding cells & saliva formation which promote mucus layer buildup!

Dietary Alternatives💪🍲:
Good food choices stimulate healing while bad diet worsen gastritis;

Incorporate foods that mitigate acid reflux/secrete protective juices e.g.: Kefir, berries,Salmon
While reducing consuming spicy and acidic diets/fried foods which intially bring in the dante infernale. Oh oh! Don’t forget to walk a little after eating or go for yoga!

Your body is built like an organization, continually adapting to the environments around it. Subsequently, this remains key advice: Rest Smart. Eat Smart – Treatment Success 💚
