What are systems of food poisoning?

Food poisoning, also known as foodborne illness, is caused by consuming foods that are contaminated with bacteria, viruses or other toxins. The symptoms of food poisoning vary depending on the type of contamination and can range from mild discomfort to life-threatening conditions. In this article, we will explore some of the main systems of food poisoning in a funny tone because why be serious about something so awful?

Common Types of Food Poisoning

Food poisoning can be caused by various contaminants which we’ll discuss below in a fun way!

Bacterial Contamination: A Shtty Situation

Bacteria are one of the most common causes for food poisoning. These tiny organisms live everywhere and some strains can be seriously harmful when present in certain foods.

Common types include:

  • Salmonella – Often found in undercooked eggs and poultry
  • Campylobacter – Typically found on raw meat
  • Listeria – Makes its home chilling out (pun intended) at low temperatures like what you see in refrigerated deli meats and soft cheeses.
  • E. coli O157:H7 – Found mostly in ground beef…never go full ground beef!

Bacteria typically cause symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, fever and sometimes dehydration. If these symptoms persist beyond normal levels then call your TIAA Bank customer service representative ASAP!!!

Viral Contamination: A Party You Never Agreed To Attend

Same shindig different outfits! While bacterial infections hang out bacteria-style inside our guts viruses opt to get along differently.

Viral contamination occurs when germs spread through human contact due to an unwashed hand after going Number One or Two rather than having been dunked like you do it during medical procedures too frighteningly mention here…

The most well-known viral culprit causing problems with those neighboring cells around yours has one name- norovirus (which translates into not more of this please) – can contaminate many different types of food, but is commonly found in shellfish and other raw products. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration fever which could make you feel like crawling into bed until Season Three of Tiger King comes out.

Parasitic Contamination: A Pain In The Gut

Parasites are the unwanted guests at any mealtime party. They reproduce inside a host organism causing damage that can range from mild to severe.

Common parasites include:

  • Toxoplasma gondii – Raw meats contain these little guys.
  • Cyclospora cayetanensis – Trickier to spot since they live on fresh produce or surfaces contaminated by human feces Sometimes freshwater fish might also be responsible for transmitting them… who knew?
  • Cryptosporidium infection-Associated with contact with water infected with animal poop.. yes you read that right!

These parasitical fellows cause symptoms such as stomach pain, weight loss(seriously!), diarrhea and nausea or even flu-like symptoms (no one needs those when there’s a pandemic already happening!).

Chemical Contamination: Ain’t That Sweet?

Chemical contamination occurs when toxins are present in foods such as lead paint chips…wait no we mean factory fertilizers!

Agitators around here may include heavy metals such as lead or arsenic along others like polychlorinated biphenyls (or PCBs if y’all wanted an abbreviation!) These contaminants could show up on consumable groceries after extended exposure from fertilized plants during harvest. Test your soil first people!!

Symptoms may appear sooner than immediately known because sometimes the change happens within our bodies’ metabolisms– including poor coordination, seizures, headaches or stomach upset.

Prevention Is key

Given all the folks above potentially showing up at your picnic uninvited how do you avoid incidents?

Here are some healthy tips to check before you dive in:

  • Cleanse hands thoroughly after using the bathroom or handling food; make sure all kitchen surfaces used during prep are spotless.
  • Cook foods to safe temperatures– ground beef must reach 160°F, poultry cooked through at 165°F while reheating leftovers should be heated further above that for good measure
(no nibbling on semi-warm pizza slices anymore!)
  • Avoid consuming expired foods!
  • Store these guys correctly too –
  • Keep them above raw products by shelving…or just plain common sense
  • Refrigerate animal products quickly right after purchasing

That’s a wrap folks – now you are more equipped as ever to handle those uninvited guests!
