Today’s Motto: ‘I Don’t Wanna Do the Work’

Welcome to a world of procrastinators, where we all have much better things to do than work! Yes, I know what you’re thinking – “Why should I work hard when I could be lounging around in my undies all day?”. Well folks, welcome to team ‘Anti-Work’ – a world where laziness is celebrated and every task feels like trying to move mountains without any leverage.

Now before you say anything else, just hold that thought for a moment as we embark on an epic adventure exploring this awesome little thing called ‘procrastination’.

1. What Exactly Is Procrastination?

We’ve always heard about procrastination but how many of us actually know the meaning behind it? Let me put it simply for y’all – Procrastination is the act of postponing tasks or delaying them until they become absolutely necessary to complete.

In simpler terms, our parents tell us,”Do your homework first and then watch TV”, but we tell ourselves,”Let’s binge-watch Stranger Things one more time”.

Our brains are constantly battling with two sides; one side being productivity and accomplishment whereas the other side prefers rest and relaxation—welcome Ms Lazybones vs Ms Productivity Pearl-Clutcher. But let me ask you something: why rush into getting anything done when there’s so much delicious YouTube content to enjoy?

2. Advantages Of Being A Sloth

While some may argue that there aren’t too many benefits of being a sloth besides meeting deadlines last-minute (which isn’t really helpful), believe it or not, there are quite a few perks!

More Sleep

With less focus on taking life seriously comes more sleep! Being idle means staying up late at night watching silly videos instead of worrying about unfinished projects.

Time For Hobbies

Do you love fishing, playing video games or just laying in bed reading? Being a little indolent gives us more room for our hobbies without being bombarded by the pressure of getting work done. When we have time to detach from daily duties and enjoy indulgent activities, it promotes creativity.

Challenge Your Creativity

When we’re not driven by immediate deadlines, sometimes all that free time can lead to creative ideas. As long as those brilliant thoughts make it into some project eventually , what’s wrong with sitting down?

3. Fear ‘The F Word’

One reason people put off starting work is FEAR! We would rather deal with an uncomfortable task later than face it right on – think of Sisyphus trying to move his boulder up the hill only for it to come rolling back down each time.

Whatever fears one may have-risks of failure or shortcomings-can be so daunting that instead of confronting them head-on, most choose to bury their heads in pillows like Godzilla sleeps through winter.

So how does someone get past this mental hurdle known as procrastination? Do they hire a musical accompaniment during every task they do (in essence creating some sort theme song?), convince themselves there’s absolutely no other way but brute-forcing through whatever project comes up next or employ motivational speakers?

There are however real ways around this. The power lies within oneself though no external factor can just snap one out of such habits—like saying “Wingardium leviosa!” will magically help everything float away when poof uttered properly.

4. Distractions

We cannot overemphasize enough how distractions ruin productivity even for the best individuals who manage their tasks accordingly; even Warren Buffet has said,”The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say ‘no’to almost everything.”

However tiny distractions like Facebook messages, Instagram notifications or hearing someone in the next room can come up and make you lose several hours of work without even realizing it. It’s so insidious – a little notification here, an advertisement there, perhaps some music? How on earth can anyone resist those?

The irony is that we may feel productive as we do our hobbies but with no sense of urgency to work hard for real accomplishments… Why not just put off everything until tomorrow? There’ll always be time when reality hits right?

5. Productivity Tools

Introducing productivity tools…

Productivity software programs designed to help improve personal processes and assist with organization are widely available these days.

Some popular apps include RescueTime,a screen-time tracking app; TodoIst, which acts as task management tool , keeping us organized into groups (shopping list/errands/work etc) based on priority levels- low-medium-high with customizable daily reminders/alerts.Helpful assistants also pop-up mid-task ensuring one does not waste away all day binge watching 90’s sitcom while living vicariously through Urkel.

Then there’s Forest App, whose objective is holding oneself accountable by planting virtual trees till completion of said task(s). The longer the tree matures the greater attention span granted-stopping only when others poke their heads in looking asking what are they doing talking-to-a-plant??!

6. Stop Blaming Yourself

You must now stop feeling guilty about being less productive and allowing yourself much-needed rest from monotonous routine—after all none of us want burnout.

Yet let’s get something clear real quick: the blame-game solves absolutely nothing! I mean who enjoys being miserable creating negative self-talk throughout the day for “failure”?

If you’re experiencing feelings such as anxiety/demotivation dealing with unfinished dealings giving way “too many” problems like time management difficulties-plenty folk describe this everyday.Try resolving problems step-by-step—not necessarily in tackling them all in a day, only so much one can tackle at time… Procrastination likely won’t be solved instantaneously but take steps/make improvements where ever possible over the long-term.

7. A Peep Into The Mood Factor

Procrastination is result of mood- if someone feels good/bad about an activity,it impacts ability to move forward quickly and effectively/conversely when we’re happy, enjoying task(s) ,tons are accomplished with minimal effort!.

The remarkable detail here is that Nothing’s really stopping anyone from enjoying work 🙂 Sometimes means breaking it down, doing something fun/relaxing prior beginning/ or seeking humor – this helps emotions get into contact right mind frame making one feel better-rested/alert to proceed confidently.

Recap

At the end of it allhowever,Ladies and Gentlemen,I hope you come away from this article realizing procrastination doesn’t include weakness but rather differs from individual to individual—whether you choose to prioritize family-time/work-life balance/having more “me” time…
