Preparation for pet scan mayo clinic?

Are you feeling ruff? Are you sick as a dog? Maybe it’s time to get checked out with a PET scan at the Mayo Clinic. But before you jump in and wag your tail, there are a few things you need to know. This guide will help prepare you for your upcoming PET scan.

What is a PET Scan?

First thing’s first: let’s answer this pup-ular question. A pet scan stands for “positron emission tomography”. We know what you’re thinking – “What do positrons have to do with my furry friend?” Well, when we humans receive an injection of radioactive glucose (don’t worry, it won’t give us sugar high), our machines can read the energy emitted by those positrons from that glucose going through our body on the screen; thus illuminating parts of bodies affected by any diseases such as cancer or infections… Pretty wild right?

Before Your Scan

It’s important to make sure you are prepared. You don’t want anything holding up your appointment because let’s face it – nobody wants procrastinated pawp-ins! Make sure to follow these rules leading up to your appointment:

Hydrate

A hydrated hound is always safer than one who isn’t well-watered! Making sure that water dish never runs dry will minimize discomfort during scanning.

Avoid Food

Mention spot treat around here like their life depends on it but be warned not eating for 6 hours prior also applies so inform them unless they wanna risk missing supper!

Medications

If medication(s) are required according explicitly given instructions upon booking off appointments , unless otherwise told {otherwise}, feel free proceed accordingly

Dress Code

While being fancy may work wonders at their ‘Doodle Formal Pooch Cocktail Hour’, save your tuxedo collar jingle bells & shoes combo attire – dogs cannot come in human clothes as they most likely will be given their own ‘official’ green jumpsuits!

No Exercise

De-paws-itively not recommended right before scanning. An energetic pup may show false results which lead to a longer time of detective work on the scans.

The Day Of Your Scan: Incl Pre-Appointment

The day is here, and it’s impawtant (sorry, important) you’re prepared for what’s to come. First and foremost logging into your Mayo Clinic patient portal can save tails wagging & avoid any unnecessary confusion or howling from the staff!

Arrival Time

Make sure to leave early – rush hour can slow down even the speediest Canine Cruiser; up to 15 minutes prior is ace when checking-up.(this way they get all our energy out outside building!)

Last Minute Ruptions™ Authorization Form

Promote use of electronic filing methods along with printing multiple copies for referencing purposes only. They’ll need crayon signatures at very bottom forms but let them know that doesn’t mean chewable treat-o’s .

Common Scenarios…Bring Amusement Parks Home!

Mayo clinic common procedures frequently include waiting times either upon check-in or during preparation period.so bring a book toy ! Avoid bringing throwing toys though.

During Your PET Scan

Okay, so we admit this part isn’t particularly interesting – but it’s good information so paws (heh.) and bear with us:

Injection

Upon arrival , radioactively-labeled glucose soln(solutions) are injected intravenously . Have no fear…spelling bee prep will still continue whether radioactive or not !

Relaxing Mode Activated

It may seem strange having earplugs noise-cancelling headphones on, then sliding onto flatbed-bed (Insert whatever fancy name produced by manufacturers),but the pet scan machine needs major focus without much distraction even finding employees who prefer music over the quiet zone, cause they want all eyes locked & loaded on that screen!

Wrapping it up

After completion check to make sure all important equipment is at paw, shake hands with the radiologist or do some tricks-touch’s for treats, exchange closure facts and– tail between legs ? Nah we don’t know if dogs ever actually leave tails between their legs!

After Your Scan

You’ve made it through! But what comes after a PET scan? Hmm..

Results

After waiting period {when} Mayo team will contact owner of patient. Ask ahead of time about average wait times.. nothing’s worse than top-tier anticipation getting delayed

Post-Dog Exam Stretching /Exercise(s)

Rest should immediately be available! Doggie-ercise can return once much needed fluids (water!) have been replenished.

That’s about it – now you’re ready for your pet scan. We hope this guide has helped answer any questions you had and prepared you for your upcoming appointment. Just remember: no matter how scary needles or machines may appear, hounds always come out tail-wagging – as long as there are ample supply of treats in checkpoints!
