Life update: my current situation and what’s next

As we all know, sometimes life throws us unexpected curveballs that completely alter the course of our plans. This past year has been hit after hit for me – some good, some bad, and a few that I’m still trying to wrap my head around. So let’s sit down, grab a cup of coffee (or wine), and catch up on all things life.

The Good News

Let’s start with the positives because why not? Despite this rollercoaster ride of emotions, there have been some great moments in my life over the past few months. Here are a few:

New Job!

I finally managed to snag myself an awesome new job (yay!). It was one of those jobs that came knocking when I least expected it but ended up being exactly what I needed at this stage in my career. The team, culture, and salary were everything I was looking for (hellooo financial stability!) so you can imagine how excited (v.v.excited) I am about this development.

Travel Bug Bit Me Hard

After being cooped up in quarantine for so long (coronavirus bummer), the travel bug bit me big time, and hard. So much so that within 2 weeks of getting vaccinated ,(Pfizer baby!!! ) I found myself booking tickets to Europe(woop woop).

It felt like forever since we last traveled somewhere far from home (well…to be honest ..last vacation/ trip wasn’t too recent…..about three years ago…but who cares!)so naturally ,we overestimated ourselves
and planned way too many countries than sane people should cover ..
(Numbers coming ahead)
– Iceland
– Sweden

– Denmark
– Belgium
– Netherlands

But hey….instead patience prevailed –we narrowed it down to just two– Iceland and Sweden (pheww). Honestly, I’m beyond thrilled that I can finally use my passport again(been keeping it super secure in the brand new travel wallet).

Fitness Gains

As much as fitness enthusiasts annoy me (pretty muscled people ughh…jk..lolz) , even I had to admit that staying healthy this year was a major saving grace. Over these past few months, my yoga routine has evolved into something out of kinfolk magazine, with inversions and handstands thrown in for fun (casual acrobats right here!). Breathing exercises, daily meditation(thank you Peloton) ,and outdoor hikes have also featured heavily.

The Not-So-Good News

Now that we’ve gotten the happy bits out of the way let’s discuss room renovation which has taken up equivalent mental space(why is all great events always come together?)
BUT>>> Anyhow lets get back at discussing other not so good situations
Unfortunate; however still things worth sharing – because who doesn’t love a bit of drama every now and then?

Nowhere To Live(well…. sorta)

It would seem like house hunting within budget became quite an adventure this summer. We managed to sell our previous apartment pretty quickly but finding another one on time proved far more difficult than anticipated.
Things got extremely complicated when landlords kept showing us apartments located as far away from civilisation as possible or asking for severly jacked-up$ deposits (counted 3 digit numbers)
but never found anything practical or feasible but turns out thats okay(this phrase repeated mutliple times incase someone thinks otherwise!)
because parents swooped in to save the day (again)! After much pondering they offered their basement unit temporarily until we sorted things out.(
Enanctment :Running down The ramp like phoebe when she finally found the right apartment- wheeeet!!!)

Fitness Fails

I can always count on myself for a good laugh (thanks hieghted clumsiness) especially during workouts. This year, I managed to take my klutziness up a few notches and ended up with some pretty spectacular injuries, yikes!
which resulted in taking long and unplanned-depressive breaks from exercising .

What’s Next?

So – what does the future hold? Well…I have short term goals(Same every year) , long-term-goals(a bit less enthusasiam than earlier) but most importantly, some new things that were completely unexpected .

Short-Term Goals (dentist appointments font)

  1. Finish decorating the basement unit: It’s our temporary home so it needs to satisfy us visually as well.

  2. Plan an epic trip : The countdown for Iceland and Sweden has started alreadyyy

  3. Start Training again(sighs.. ) – even though it means entering training at beginner level all over again (OOTchh).

4.Get back to Cooking(bring out popeyes recipes for sure!)

Long Term Goals (maybe bold font)

1) Work Harder: Expanding my skill set now that I’m working with teams composed of senior experts.

2) Finally start investing time into developing my side business() which has been bubbling under since college!

3) Volunteer Regularly(Hopefully somewhere close maybe La Casa Christmas event or Habitat work site ?)

##Expected But Unexpected

And then there are those curveballs. This is where you tell yourself repeatedly “If this ain’t fate then what is?” regardless of how much Jack Daniels your liver can handle ..here goes:

My sister shared news around her pregnancy – yep definitely cried tears of joy only because i saw another human showing same level of HPA axis deranged excitation.

As much as my sister is ecstatic about the baby, I’m also thrilled to become an aunty and spoil him/her with anything from personalized advent calendars to small pocket money savings every week (Helloooo golden aunt award)

So there we have it – life simply won’t follow a predictable course sometimes. There will be great moments, and of course some setbacks but I remind myself that at least we’re making memories while living this mundane repetitive routine each day . Here’s to embracing the unexpected mystery of what comes next!
