Is your liver on your left or right side?

When it comes to organs in our body, we often take for granted that they’re exactly where they need to be. But have you ever wondered if your liver is where it’s supposed to be? You may have heard someone say that their pain was on the “right” side or the “left” side of their stomach and thought, “wait a minute, isn’t your liver just symmetrically stacked right there?” Well, let’s dive into some fun facts about this amazing vital organ.

The Basics

The liver is the largest internal organ in the human body. That’s right folks! It can weigh up to three pounds and measures around 15cm wide… damn talk about gigantomastia! This reddish-brown wedge-shaped organ lies below our ribs on the right-hand side of our bodies and extends across from that location towards our left hand side as well. No wonder people aren’t sure which exact location their poor little guy resides!

So Then… Where Exactly is it Positioned?

If you want an anatomical answer then brace yourself because I got my “Grey’s Anatomy” hat on rn! Our present-day knowledge of anatomy classifies the entire abdominal cavity according to two coordinates: Vertical Line aka Midclavicular line (From above downwards) & Horizontal Line aka Subcostal Plane (From front backwards). Basically what all this means is – If you draw an imaginary line vertically down from your collarbone and another one horizontally along your lowest rib cage then voila, there you’ve located its geographical zone.

Okay okay hang tight before we go any deeper – before y’all come barging into my office telling me how misplaced I am; yes!yes some variations are possible but those cases are considered rare exceptions with minimal differences anyway so nothing major.

What Does It Do Anyways? Like Seriously WHAT DOES IT DO?

“New phone, who dis?”

Ha! Jokes aside, the liver has a myriad of functions that are essential for our well-being. Let’s take an in-depth look at some major roles it plays:

  1. Metabolism Regulation: The liver produces bile- a yellowish-green fluid which helps in digestion and absorbs nutrients from intestines.
  2. Storage HQ: Our Mister-liver does not mess around when it comes to storage spaces oh no! It stores glucose, minerals (such as iron), vitamins (particularly A,D,E,K & B12) and fats until cells require them.
  3. Blood Filterer & Detoxifier Extraordinaire: Ah yes, that one organ we don’t often think about gets all the dirty jobs done; the liver eliminates dead red/white blood cells AND rids toxins harmful substances such as medication or alcohol..you guessed right: Hangover.

As you can see people, this guy works HARD! So…perhaps time to show appreciation perhaps?

How Does Location Affect Organ Functioning?

Medical folks are known for stating stuff pontifically so let me paint you a pretty picture instead: Imagine you lost your mind on LIT beer-bongs last night royally passed out on your bed impromptu- fashion only to wake up violently sick af-, yeah its cause your innocent victim aka Liver is still back there working overtime trying to filter out everything added plus more!!
To sum up – Your liver’s position doesn’t affect its function directly but if severe inflammation occurs due injury\alcohol consumption etc – be ready to feel pain near ribs especially on RIGHT side as evidenced by observation!

What Should We Watch Out For Though When Talking About Liver Related Gamut?

It’s always important to keep tabs on our health and make sure we’re taking care of every part of ourselves properly; here are some signs and symptoms that might indicate something is up with your liver:

  1. Jaundice: hello yellow! When the skin or whites of the eyes turn yellow it’s usually an indication that there’s something going wrong within our bodies- often a sign of impaired liver health.
  2. Swollen Abdomen/Ascites: Wondering why you feel bloated despite not eating anything exotic? Serious conditions such as hepatitis/cirrhosis can cause fluid accumulation in abdomen
  3. Fatigue/Chest Pain/Mental Fogging/Dizzinesslessness: Oh noo poor productivity, low energy levels and sudden weight loss – these are common surface-level symptoms but if added to pressure near rib cage (right side mainly) its prudent visiting physician!

What Happens Next?

In conclusion folks, those unpleasant consequences we’ve described come into play only when illogical choices hit us hard leaving organ vulnerable without any way out except for reacting like above stated ways but shouldn’t be confused with people born different than most humans anatomically-wise both showing almost same functions & similar process pheww. It’s important to appreciate everything our body does for us; taking care of ourselves should always remain a top priority!

So here’s hoping this article managed to share some enlightenment on where exactly your living quarters lie while inciting laughter along the way 🙂

Bye-folks for now!
