Is smart water safe to drink?

If there’s one thing we humans can’t live without, it’s water. We love drinking it, splashing in it, freezing it into ice cubes for cocktail hour – you name it. But what is smart water? And is smart water safe to drink?

Let’s find out!

What Exactly Is Smart Water?

Smart water sounds fancy but when broken down to its basics, all it really is just “water that has been distilled and had electrolytes added to mimic the taste of spring water” according to a spokesperson from Glaceau.

But wait – how do they know what Elephants like or not? Just kidding!

Is It Actually Smarter Than Regular Water?

Depends on your definition of “smart”. If “being marketed towards people willing to spend more money on something that already exists but now with additional vitamins/electrolytes”, well then yeah… maybe SmartWater is smarter than regular old H2O.

If we’re talking about actual scientific evidence regarding increased hydration performance (like some clever ads claim), doubtful whether ‘there are any significant differences’.

As Columbia University exercise physiologist Carol Garber puts plainly: “No scientific data support benefits over tap or bottled waters.”

So don’t let the word “smart” fool ya: this ain’t rocket-science!

So…Is Smart Water Safe To Drink?

For starters – as long as smart water comes from a reputable source, such as Coca-Cola-owned brand Dasani who bottles purified municipal tap-water- , yes it’s likely healthy enough for casual drinking purposes…

However by adding things like Electrolyte ingredients exceeding 200 mg/liter regulations governing mineral levels in fluoride-free bottled waters; which means while safe moderation needs careful attention so make sure you’re plowing through those extra $3 bottles heeding caution folks – better not be guzzling like fish!

How Does It Compare to Other Brands of Bottled Water?

There are many brands out there!

In the world of bottled water, smart water is just one option among a sea (pun intended) others.

Some popular alternatives include:

  • Fiji Water: This premium-priced brand got famous for targeting Hollywood elite with its glamorous equestrian motto – “Untouched by man.” If you crave those natural volcanic minerals then it’s perfect however from an eco-friendly perspective? Fiji ain’t Co2 neutral last time I heard. No wonder Jennifer Aniston likes SmartWater better…

  • Voss : Comes in a sleek bottle which can work as ‘modern art’ in your kitchen until someone takes it offensively and call you pretentious…However, if mineral-free luxury thirst quenching floats your boat – Voss could make you ‘Mr/Miss Popular Diplo’

And so on….

So is smartwater safer than other bottled waters? That’s hard to say because likely some have different compositions; but let me ask ya this: When did individuals become scientists when tackling their hydration preferences since birth? Now we’re getting all snobby about our preferences?!

Electrolytes – What Are They And Do We Even Need Them?

It looks like what comes out of my faucet except they added salt”.

That’s basically how smart water gets turned into electrolyte-enhanced samaritan liquid. But what exactly are these magical components commonly found within marketed ‘sports drinks’ or Paleo diet edibles that seem to truly baffle people?

Here’s the trick:

When breaking down these power-pack ingredients in their simplest form, electrolytes refer two types namely positive ions cations such Sodium (Na+) & Calcium (Ca2+) and negative ion anions Chloride (Cl−) & Bicarbonate (HCO3−)

Essentially, electrolytes like sodium and chloride help keep fluid balance in our cells by regulating liquids outside of them moreover when we sweat or urinate. This is why some athletes’ drink sports drinks to replace salts lost in excretion during intensive exercise.

But does the average person really need to consume extra electrolytes on a daily basis? Not exactly because it’s dependant on your physical activity levels and lifestyle; plus every day food and drink also contain them!

Funny Names That Go Beyond SmartWater & Electrolyte Add-ins?

Just love being playful with science don’t you? From alkalized water that can make your blood ‘less acidic’ eventually keeping cancer at bay – just be careful consuming too much…can end up accelerating tooth decay. Or how about ‘Blk Water’, the newest BFF of health-conscious ravers comes with an unusual pitch-black color (from added minerals/fulvic acid) that will blend right into any dark wardrobe attire!? Mind-boggling isn’t it?

Look here’s what I’m sayin’:

It might seem complicated trying out different types of water – call me crazy but saying “give me smartwater’ over default tap” brand should do okay! Choose based on taste preferences, as long no trendy names are throwing you off

Then again, whatever gives ya satisfaction from something as basic as hydration needs..who am I to judge? After all guess for many people drinking expensive H2O makes them feel oh so posh. Which is never a bad thing…

Bottom Line

The jury still out when it comes whether there are benefits worth splurging extra cents for bottled smart water over tap, but if It tickles your fancy than go ahead knock yourself practically…In terms of safety – Contaminants within production process itself may arise however maintaining quality controls these days easy; regulatory requirements have improved exponentially since early times!

Overall: Don’t let clever marketing terms misguide you however great taste + guaranteed purity standards then go for Smartwater! Or Voss, or Fiji…Hell, even your very own TAP – it’s all up to individual preference in the end. Drink more water—-anyhow you like it!
