As parents, we all want to raise kids who are confident and self-assured. But sometimes our efforts can backfire, leading to children who are narcissistic and self-absorbed. If you’re worried that your daughter may be showing signs of narcissism, take this quiz to find out.
The Pre-Quiz Checklist
Before we get started with the actual quiz, let’s go over a few things you should keep in mind before taking it:
1. This is Not a Diagnosis
Please note that this quiz is not intended as an official diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Only licensed mental health professionals can diagnose NPD or any other personality disorder.
2. You Know Your Child Best
No test or quiz can replace the wisdom and insight gained from truly knowing your child well. Trust your instincts when evaluating her behavior.
3. Be Honest but Compassionate
When answering questions about your daughter’s behavior, try to be honest without being harsh or overly critical. Remember that everyone has flaws!
Now that we’ve covered these important points let’s dive into the quiz itself!
The Quiz: Is Your Daughter Exhibiting Signs of Narcissism?
Answer each question honestly based on how frequently you see these behaviors in your daughter:
|Does she constantly seek attention?||Yes/No|
|Does she lack empathy towards others’ feelings?||Yes/No|
|Does she exaggerate her accomplishments and seem preoccupied with fantasies of power, beauty or intelligence?||Yes/No|
|Is she hypersensitive to criticism, often reacting angrily even if minorly challenged by others?||Yes/ No|
|Does she exploit people for personal gain; e.g., expects favors at work due to relationships rather than qualifications i.e riding on someone‘s coattails?||Yes/No|
|Does she act entitled, thinking that normal rules do not apply to her; e.g., breaking traffic rules thinking “that’s for ordinary people”?||Yes/No|
|Is she overly concerned with status symbols, such as designer bags, shoes or jewelry?||Yes/No|
|Does she expect special treatment in all areas of life, such as preferential treatment at school or work?||Yes/No|
|Does she think highly of herself and feels quite worthy even when confronted with information that disproves this belief i.e facts don’t matter because her opinions are valid regardless of truth. ?||Yes/ No|
Add up your yes responses.
- If you answered ‘yes’ to one question: Congratulations! There is improvement space, but it does not necessarily mean your daughter has NPD.
- If two or three questions got a ‘yes’: Your child may be showing signs consistent with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), and it’s worth further exploring the issue with a trained professional.
- Four yeses or more: A greater number of “yesses” suggest higher levels of narcissism. It may be time to consult a health care provider.
What Does It Mean if My Daughter Has Narcissistic Traits?
If your daughter has shown signs consistent with NPD through the quiz results, there is no reason to panic. While NPD can be very challenging disorder that needs an expert in Psychology for support; having some level of self-involvement doesn’t equate someone to receive diagnosis/convergence towards the illness.
It would help gauge putting boundaries on how much attention her behavior receives by limiting social media access/comparison engagements/etc aside from seeking guidance from mental health professionals who specialize in children development disorder management #counselling sessions#
Causes, Symptoms & Signs Of Pediatric Narcissism
The idea behind making self-awareness a high priority is that parents could recognize when their children develop these tendencies as early as possible. This would allow for the adoption of measures or strategies to shift their thought patterns/limiting exposure, especially in cases where it’s starting to develop into a disorder.
As with most personality disorders, research isn’t precise on what exactly causes narcissism in young children. Emerging theories posit that genes and/or any traumatic situations experienced during childhood can lead up to the manifestation.
Maybe certain interpersonal relationship styles demand more egotistic behavior from kids regardless they can’t differentiate between reality vs showoff-esc behaviors which warranted them trust/self-esteem/science-backed emotional regulation skills should be an avenue in controlling this subset of emotions early on.
Symptoms & Signs
Certain symptoms may pop out if someone were developing signs pointing towards NPD:
- An absence of empathy combined with insensitive attitudes
- Demanding admiration (verbal, material or otherwise) that’s above average
- Putting other people down
- Propensity towards entitled beliefs and behaviours/tasks being beneath skillset/deserving better treatment.
Parenting dynamics & how was she taught to cope, control levels(what variations etc)??

Tips In Encouraging Healthy Developmental Habits
Don’t give up! With perseverance, you can still guide her transformation by adopting proactive developmental changes positively impacting growth while limiting negative influences.
Here are helpful tips dealing with helping kids contain self-absorbed personalities:
Model Behavior You Want Your Childs To Emulate: We know teenage girls have an exceptional sense of observance; they absorb things rather quickly seeing parents model non-chauvinist figureheads exhibiting qualities like relating/sympathizing/integrity in character/humility helps validate inter-personnel competence whereby people should care about friends/family without expecting anything immediate in return.
Encourage Welfarism: Helping her to learn the importance of being considerate of others through acts such as volunteering, donating and/or showing empathy will help decrease intrinsic has-to-be-about-me mentality.
Flip Criticism Upside Down: You could steer away from negativity by presenting criticism/feedback in a positive way rather than just tearing down confidence & substituting with condescending persuasive argument– “I know you can produce even better results when you dedicate extra time instead of simply relying on quick-fix solutions”
Shift Attention Patterns Toward Growth, Not Perfection: Parents should encourage children towards growth for purely performance-based objectives over perfection because doing things efficiently gives them more room for learning and enjoying life’s daily cyclic process.
Set Limits/Stick To The Routine.: Limiting screen time/social media exposure/topical TV news etc where inflaming dispositions get fired up easily would benefit her developmental progression towards becoming healthy socializing human beings.
Who knows? She may dream less about status symbols and begin spending money on charitable contributions that help people fewer well-off than herself!
If your daughter exhibits signs pointing towards narcissistic tendencies or already meets diagnostic criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), there is hope! While it’s never easy dealing with these issues alone calling mental health availability line/close trained professional/her school counselor would certainly bring out-of-the-box insights at no cost/community care package offerings.
It might take some additional effort from parents/guardians especially those parenting dynamics set before diagnosis; but ultimately helps deal effectively will surely have future longterm upsides. With positive reinforcement & willingness to handle behavioral specialization requirements eventually it’ll work out positively in the end!
