Is fish good for diverticulitis?

As someone who loves fish, I didn’t want to believe that it could be bad for diverticulitis. But as always, I had to do my research and here’s what I found out.

What is Diverticulitis?

Before we dive into whether fish is good or bad for diverticulitis, let’s first understand what the heck it actually is!
Diverticular disease refers to two conditions: diverticulosis and diverticulitis. These are small pouches that can form in your colon (large intestine), over time these pouches can become infected resulting in a condition called diverticulitis.
Diverticular disease such as diverticultis affects an awful lot of people; In fact, over half of all Americans will develop this ailment by the time they reach 70 years old.

So.. Can We Eat Fish If We Suffer From Diverticitlis?

Drumroll pleaseeee… The answer’s a little complicated – it tricksy like a magician’s sleight-of-hand trick! While some types of fish can help alleviate symptoms associated with digestive diseases by reducing inflammation and providing protein which helps speed up healing processes:
– Cold water oily fish
– Tuna
– Halibut

Other types of fish should definitely be avoided if you have especially active symptoms originating from digestive conditions such as:
-Fried Fish Fillets (Any fried food really)
-Tilapia

Therefore when deciding to eat fish if suffering from digestions problems like this different kinds should be consumed appropriately.

Surely There Must Be More Benefits To Eating Fish Than Just Fatty Acids?
Actually yes there is more. Here’s just a few benefits:

Powerful Source Of Protein

Did you know that our bodies need adequate amounts of protein on daily basis without fail? Eating fish provides us with all of the required amino acids our body needs. Amino acids are essential during a healing process since they’re what makes up cells and are crucial in rebuilding tissues.

Improved Mood

You may have heard that possessing mood-boosting properties is one thing fish does well at – this is true! Omega-3s influence neurotransmitters which help to regulate your mood.

How To Prepare The Fish Effectively

But hang on, don’t throw caution to the wind just yet, it’s not time to start fully enjoying those sushi rolls again however you like..
It is recommended for people who suffer from diverticulitis that way in which fish is cooked be mindful:
-Baked
-Poached or grilled (mindful of grilling tongs)

Fried varieties must be avoided as any fried food can cause digestive distress and worsen symptoms.

Yes You Can Have Your Cake & Eat It Too-With Moderation!
In moderation, eating salmon or other fatty oily cold water varieties can actually improve some of your digestion ailments and make you feel better. But if you want to stick to the safer route without causing excessive stress on an already sensitive stomach ensure how its prepared!

So yes there are benefits but please remember everything should be consumed moderately.

Fish, especially oily types like halibut or tuna will not worsen conditions such as diverticulitis so long as it’s grilled poached or baked correctly. However, tilapia should certainly be coupled with moderation when considering whether it has a place in your diet(as its low nutritional value might outweigh any benefit consuming).
Overall though? Good news for Iiefish lovers out there – rock on!
