Is disodium phosphate safe?

Now for the big question – is it safe? Well my friends let me tell you -in small doses- yes. In fact, disodium phosphate is classified by both FDA/EFSA regulations categorizing it as “safe for consumption” . The amount present in any packaged product does not exceed 70% daily intake tolerance level,[^1] so don’t worry too much if you find yourself eating just one pack of cheesy fries.

What Do Studies Tell Us?

Studies have demonstrated its safety over short-term exposures at realistic dietary intake levels.[^3].According to tests carried out on rats conducted over a period of several weeks indicated no significant adverse effects [^6].

Consuming large amounts (since moderation seems like so few fun) may cause symptoms ranging from mild stomach upset to more severe conditions such as diarrhea; However, this has not been identified in the prescribed range by FDA/EFSA regulations making it harmful when taken moderately .

But Are There Any Benefits?

Well yes, but like everything that has benefits comes with disadvantages. Disodium phosphate can provide nutritional value if taken in recommended doses.

However, taking excessive amounts could lead to high levels of phosphorus in your blood which might break down your bones since too much absorption effects such mechanism negatively. High level intakes for instance have shown estimations to prompt side effects such as chemical burns , renal(not genre specific) defects or even death.[^7]

Should I Avoid It Altogether then?

For my vegetarian and vegan fellows out there,you’re free from worry.There haves been no reports indicating that Na2HPO4 poses any serious opprobrium towards vegetarians vegans eating foods containing this additive.

While disodium phosphate is safe when consumed at moderate levels,it’s possible linkage towards potential health hazards cannot be ignored.Eating processed food in general can cause an influx of disodium phosphate intake levels, so it’s always best to opt for certain whole food alternatives.
