How to treat an oncoming cold sore?

We’ve all been there. That tingle in your lip, the itchiness that just won’t go away—the telltale signs of an oncoming cold sore. Don’t worry; I’m here to share with you my secret remedies and tips for banishing those pesky outbreaks before they ruin your day.

First Things First: What is a Cold Sore?

Let’s start by getting our terminology straight. A cold sore is not actually caused by a cold! It’s a viral infection usually brought about by either herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1), which causes oral herpes or herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), which creates genital herpes (not something anyone wants)!

Cold sores are bumps that develop around the mouth and lips, usually filled with fluid. These unsightly creatures can stick around from five to fourteen days; however, we will do everything we can to get rid of them as fast as possible.

So… How Do We Get Rid Of Them?

You’ve got three options:

Option #1: Wait it Out (yawn)

You could wait for it to run its course—booo-ring! Nobody has time for that nonsense.

Option #2: Use Over-the-counter Meds

Sure, this option may work all right but why spend extra money when you have natural homemade remedies at home?

Option #3: Use Natural Homemade Remedies

Now THIS is what I’m talking about – using things found in the pantry as medication rather than trusting big-pharma drug companies pushing overpriced antiviral meds!

Using natural ingredients (especially if organic) not only helps reduce inflammation/infection but saves cash too! Here’s what you need:

Items Reason
Lemon Balm Contains compounds that both help with inflammation and halt viral replication.
Vanilla Extract Helps heal wounds caused by the virus, reduces inflammation and can also inhibit viruses from growing naturally
Licorice Root No, we’re not talking about those sticky ass candy sticks but actual licorice root which contains a compound called glycyrrhizin proven to be an antiviral agent against herpesviruses

Cold Sore Remedies

Now let’s put these ingredients together in some clever concoctions:

Kiss Your Sore Goodbye Lip Balm

This is my go-to lip balm recipe that will keep your lips moisturized whilst fighting off the impending doom of a cold sore outbreak.

  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of beeswax granules
  • Half teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Half teaspoon lemon balm
  • Quarter teaspoon licorice root

Combine coconut oil and beeswax in a saucepan over low heat until melted. Remove from heat; add remaining ingredients (vanilla extract/lemon balm/licorice-infused honey). Pour into clean containers and leave them for salivating over later!

Lemon Balm Tea

Who doesn’t love tea? This one’s using calming lemon balm infused two ways plus additional immunity-enhancing components.

You’ll need:
– Fresh lemon leaves or dried
– One slice of ginger (optional)
– Lemon juice
– Honey (especially Manuka)—helps clear bacterial infections

How to Prepare The Lip-Smacking Drink:

Step 1: Add four fresh/dried lemon leaves & sliced ginger shavings (ew) into boiling water.

Step 2: Cover up pot until steeped about five minutes or longer if desired

Step 3: Strain out leaf/herb while pouring tea into cup

Step 4: Mix end cup contents with honey/lemon juice

Additional Ways to Combat a Cold Sore

Don’t restrict yourself to homemade remedies only; other simple things you can do that help relieve cold sores are:

Apply Witch Hazel (sorry, no witch included)

Witch hazel is an anti-inflammatory which works wonders for swelling and helps fight against infection. Apply with a cotton swab directly on the sore.

Avoid Touching Your Lips!

Got kids? Maybe using doors or toys as phones is just a bit too much imagination! herpesvirus loves spreading via saliva-kissing types of contact, so steer clear of them. This should be common sense but sometimes people forget (talking mostly about grown-ups here).

If all else fails…
sometimes your body does need some extra help than just home/natural remedies. Occasional blister outbreaks may occur accordingly as part of its natural healing process from illness/injury seen in suppressed immune system patients such as after chemotherapy treatment or HIV/AIDS patients undergoing immunosuppression.” Take time prioritizing physical health alongside mental/emotion wellbeing—hint yoga practice will take everything wonderful we’ve created even further whilst reducing stress levels.

Hope this has helped soothe yo urges to eradicate those pesky little lip bumps once-and-for-all!
