How to take xarelto with food?

  • Take XARELTO ® 1 or 2 times a day as prescribed by your doctor.
  • For the 10-mg dose, XARELTO ® may be taken with or without food.
  • For the 15-mg and 20-mg doses, take XARELTO ® with food at the same time each day.
  • If you miss a dose: If you take the 15-mg dose of XARELTO® 2 times a day (a total of 30 mg of XARELTO® in 1 day): Take XARELTO ®

Are there foods that affect Xarelto? Because of this consumption of grapefruit (and cranberry) products can lead to dangerous hemorrhaging. THEY MUST NOT BE CONSUMED WITH COUMADIN! (They have no effect on Xarelto.) While cranberry was actually removed off the label in 2011, many practitioners still recommend against taking cranberry with Coumadin.

Why Xarelto with evening meal? Because the manufacturer has found that taking it with the evening meal is the best time to take it. Actually the manufacturer (J&J) only submitted the drug taken with the evening meal to the FDA for expediency sake. It has nothing to do with the drug’s efficacy for other times of day.
