How to reduce pain of iud insertion?

If you’re thinking about getting an intrauterine device (IUD) inserted, you might be concerned about the pain that comes with it. Fear not, my friend! We’ve got some tips for you on how to reduce that pain and make your IUD insertion experience as smooth as possible.

Prepare Yourself Mentally

Getting an IUD is a big decision and can be quite intimidating. However, keep in mind that people have been sticking things up their vaginas since ancient times (ahem Egyptian papyrus tampons circa 2000 BCE). So, don’t worry – your body was built for this! Take some deep breaths, meditate, or play your favorite tunes on Spotify to set yourself at ease beforehand.

Choose Your Provider Carefully

It goes without saying but find yourself someone who knows what they’re doing. Looking for a provider who specializes in birth control could help save heaps of trouble down the line.

Make sure that during consultation with them take note of their technique/practice methods when placing an IDU,how many successful placements they have done before etc, such information goes a long way in preparedness(we prefer over-preparedness).

Questions To Ask Your Doctor
What’s your success rate?
How often do patients report discomfort or pain?
What’s your method/ TechniqueIs there anything I should be aware of before coming into braces placement

Consider Scheduling Around Menstruation

Menstruating women are generally more sensitive down there just before & during periods while flowing blood pressure/cramps can add stress factors which contribute & hiking chances . For those who desire lesser pain only scheduling after cycles ends would actually curtail likelyhood of uncomfortable feels .Just another area one can fine-adjust around.

Pop Some Painkillers

Taking acetaminophen, ibuprofen or aspirin prior to the procedure can dull the pain and make for a better overall experience. Don’t skimp on this one – take the recommended dose indicated on the bottle.

Some people prefer using heating pads(preferred if possible not electrical) or belly wraps to relax stomach muscles thereby reducing tenderness and cramping during insertion process too . Worthwhile for an experiment perhaps.

## Get Yourself The Calming Accessories

When I panicked after spotting what appeared to be blood in my urine ,I brought myself overpriced calming tea ( just say it had chamomile, don´t ask me anything else about that) as well as some calming music,Feng shui book, the good-luck rocks we collected few years back from our last trip(whatever works y´all!!). Bottom line is,gather comforts so that once in waiting room you don´t succumb into misery alone- have something nice handy!

Side note: There’s no evidence-based research indicating that crystals bring extra soothing effects however they do look fabulous

Bring Along a Support Person

Consider bringing someone along with you who can act as your support system while getting an IDU placed.Appointment day at its core is pretty stressful hence having someone there who could give either company/some encouraging words/ salty snacks never did any harm ?did it? It also acts source of distraction which generally goes down well in these scenarios.

Distract Your Mind During Placement

A wise man once quipped “Suck it up Buttercup” ,however quite frankly sometimes its easier said than done,If you want to distract yourself whilst doc does his handy work ..listening voicenotes from Sharon where she talks about her week/dog/cat excrements should suffice! Finally put those voice notes/listening budz out their misery!

ADIOS, ANXIETY

Anxiety can heighten the sensitivity of pain centres so once you walk into that door try not to focus too much on your anxiety, find something fun/useful for distraction We’ve got some strategies (which we use even in non-IUD situations) ready just for these scenarios:

  • Do a breathing exercise
  • Listen to music
  • Visualize something soothing
  • Repeat a calming mantra or affirmation
    “I am strong and capable.”

You got this!

## Take A Few Deep Breaths Beforehand

Once seated take few deep breaths, some might work better with rhythmic breathing/as soon as one perk up,blow wind out whistling at same pace(Trick my Yoga master taught me )

Sit while leaning back ,keep abdominal muscles relaxed ,do quick full body stretch – anything that makes you feel relaxed.

Take Advantage of the Numbing Gel

Each person’s preference spans differently .Where possible inquire whether they could offer numbing gel/cream if impact tolerance rates positively.Could potentially prevent any unpleasant sensations/luckily helps out numbness during procedure.

Important to note: The anesthetic wash /gel does sting initially albeit briefly meaning it goes beyond its expected effect!

## Bring Music With You

There´s no harm in actually bringing along headphones+ turning up tune volumes whilst waiting. We personally find Jhene Aiko works wonders paired w/a cup o´ herbal tea.To each their own, right?

## Bite Down On Something

It’s said that biting down onto a firm object such as muzzle or stress ball tend operates by distracting from insertion discomfort/potentially reduces feelings of pain /tension which contribute negatively. Mouth guards work well similarly however ones used should be sterilised . #NewNormalFeeling

Overall taking proactive measures ahead Placement Day proves beneficial to majority. If cutting edge tech practices are implemented effectively then pain could very well be minimized .Whether you decide on using all of the options or some select few- we hope this article aids towards a comfortable insertion experience. Remember Pop in headphones, breathe deep and lean back onto that practice bed!
