How to make bagaruwa powder?

Are you tired of using commercial products that are loaded with chemicals? Are you looking for an alternative solution to your everyday needs? Look no further than bagaruwa powder!

Bagaruwa is a leguminous plant native to Nigeria and other parts of West Africa. Its seeds are used for various purposes, including making soap, medicine, and even food. In this article, we will teach you how to make bagaruwa powder from scratch and have some fun while doing it. So let’s get started!

Equipment Needed

Before we dive into the recipe, let’s take a look at what equipment you’ll need:

  • A blender or coffee grinder
  • A sieve or strainer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Oven or sun-drying apparatus
  • Storage container

Make sure all your equipment is clean before starting.

Ingredients

To make your own bagaruwa powder at home you will need:

1 cup raw bagaruwa seed
Water (as needed)

That’s one ingredient only! No more fussing over too many ingredients in recipes like tomatoes like someone I know who uses almost 10 ingredients just for spaghetti sauce when half the spices can be left out.

Metaphorically speaking less is really more, besides who wants to mix so much stuff together?

Preparation Steps

Now that we’ve got everything ready let us get down with steps on how exactly we’re going to turn those plain ole seeds into the coveted dust form by following these easy steps:

Step One}

Take one cup of fresh raw bagaurawa seeds.
You must be careful not to use already roasted ones as they might reduce chances of deriving intended benefits from our precious magic beans!!

Step Two }

Soak your seeds overnight in enough water about 2 – 3 times their proportion.

Note:
This is unlike the human phenomenon of swelling, seeds should not exceed their water proportion.

Step Three}

Drain the excess water but do not throw it out.
Reserve it for future use in cooking when need be.

Drying Methods

After prepping our beans for next process , we will proceed to dry them well using this method:

Oven Method

If you are using an oven:
Preheat your oven at 120℃ (250℉)
Spread your soaked and drained seeds on a baking tray/bowl.
Put them inside your pre-heated oven (use only middle rack)
Bake/roast for about 30 – 45 minutes stirring once or twice every fifteen minutes so that they brown and dry evenly until desired color is achieved
.

Sun-drying Method

Place the seed in a sizeable bowl/container.

Cover with Muslin cloth ensuring no pests have access to feed off from precious pulp!

Place under direct sun till totally dried while turning contents over regularly.

Umm…before that…I hope ya’ll know what muslin is? It’s only okay if you don’t though , I mean who has time reading up on unnecessary stuff anyway .

I just Googled muslin by the way: It’s lightweight cotton fabric used in dressmaking, mosquito netting etc

You’re welcome!!

Anyhuu, After drying make sure there isn’t any moisture left before blending.

Grinding Process

Wait! There’s more…
Now comes my favourite among all steps: grinding those roasted goodies into magic dust

With a coffee grinder/blender/smashing utensil grind/pulse/press finely. The finer powder you get, higher returns/incredibly rewarding feeling obtained.. You can even mix with other powders such as sandalwood or oats flakes depending on its usage.

So finally after all said&done TA-DA!!!,

You now have your bagaruwa powder ready for use!!!

Please do store in an airtight container and to extend shelf life, keep it away from moisture or direct sunlight.

We hope this article has been informative as well as fun! With these easy steps, you can make your own bagaruwa powder which is versatile and unique in its applications.

So roll up those sleeves, get creative using our method and make some magic happen today!
