How to know if the plan b worked?

Let’s face it, accidents happen. Sometimes while engaging in the beautiful act of intimacy, our minds and bodies get carried away with passion that we forget about taking precautions. Luckily, there is a pill designed for such moments of forgetfulness or mishaps—the Plan B pill. It’s important to note however that just because you’ve taken emergency contraception, it doesn’t automatically mean that pregnancy has been prevented. So how do you know if this tiny little buddy worked its magic? Here are some ways you can tell:

The dosage

Before we go any further, let’s talk about dosage real quick. Did you take both pills as directed on the packaging? If yes, then kudos to you! You’re already off to a good start.

Wait and see

The first sign that your little friend might have worked is—nothing at all! That could be an indicator in itself because sometimes after consuming the hectic hormonal cocktail present in most contraceptives like Plan B (levonorgestrel), women may experience side effects like bloating or cramps almost immediately (which trust us; nobody wants) but more commonly within 1-2 days’ post-consumption.

So did nothing happen after taking your mini tablet? Well done! But…

Mood swap!

While not scientifically proven (yet) experiencing unusual mood swings –whether in yourself or witnessed by those around may occur when levonorgestrel enters into play upon consumption.

If no unforeseen behavioural changes happened over these past couple days (like hysterical crying during scene change of ‘big bang theory’) – this means that your body was able to adapt accordingly without causing much disruption down under… FANTASTIC!

But hang on just yet…keep reading.

Your period

One of the clearest indications will be from their previous norm weekly cycle status updates. If you’re still unsure whether Plan B worked or not, then monitoring your menstrual cycle after taking the Plan B pill can be a helpful way to track if all is well.

Did things go according to plan regarding timing? Yes / No

Smaller than normal bleeding

By an odd conspiracy of nature’s perfect timing – lately there may have been complaints about having too light periods. Now, while we aren’t supporting this strange occurrence in regards to ones’ monthly trifles—when having lighter than usual periods post-levenogestrel—it is (drumhold please) a good sign! Yup, no torn uterus here!

Having some form of shedding happen shows that levonorgestrel was effective either delaying one’s period or softening it up for an easy smooth exit out of our lives. So put down those terrorising hemorrhaging images aside and just exhale – safety in every single drop.

Larger than normal bleeding

Conversely though; heavier-than-established mensural blastings may occur with these mighty mini-pills – While unexpected blood stains on bedding are NEVER hip– isn’t her full-throttled attack raging through like a caged animal worthy enough evidence that Plan-B has protected offsprings to come?

Post-pill flow may indicate hormonal changes occurred but ultimately (and most importantly!), egg implantation never took place hence why so many clot formations in only 2-3 days.

May look intense but rest assured expelling them means safe from pregnant tendencies — AKA peace of mind–AKA more life adventures ahead when ready!

The time factor

So let’s say you’ve taken the right dosage at the correct time frame as directed by packaging… now what? Well typically doctors suggest women wait roughly two weeks before completely celebrating optimism(^1) .
Right around then you’ll be tad late…to feel vulnerable creepy-crawlies tickling on tummy area concept for which 50% of population does “knock on wood” hoping it disappears.

Pregnancy test

If you still feel unsure, after the time suggestion proposed above, take a pregnancy test. At this stage, chances of accurate readings increase and WOO-HOO, negativity displayed typically implies your Plan B endeavour was a success – dodged that bullet!

Doctor’s visit

In some cases in where an uncomfortable amount of bleeding occurs (wait…UNPLEASANT hemorraghing?) or extended days beyond the norm cycle period- we suggest getting an expert opinion to squash unknown possibilities.

But now—take out those paper-pen marks, technology screens; vision boards – whatever it takes—we’ve just created real life measures (funny aside: always have stickers as reward when accomplishing tough tasks)—that actually prove prevention with just one pill!

Keep safe gorgeous beings awaiting self-indulgence pleasures blossoming all around us. We’ll catch you up next round implementing another form insurance against accidents that surprisingly enough… Party city has yet offered…

  1. Apparently ‘celebrating optimism’ isn’t exactly chosen phraseology among medical experts but we got away with it!
