How to get waves for coarse hair?

Coarse hair can be a pain in the butt. It’s thick, coarse (duh), and often difficult to style. But fear not, fellow humans! With a few simple tips and tricks, you too can have waves that make all your friends jealous.

Embrace Your Natural Texture

First things first, embrace your natural texture. Yes, I know it’s tempting to straighten or relax your hair in an attempt to tame those wild locks. But trust me when I say that embracing your natural texture is the key to getting those perfect waves.

Shampoo Less Often

Next up on our list of tips: shampoo less often. This might sound counterintuitive, but by washing your hair less frequently, you allow its natural oils and moisture levels to balance out — meaning fewer tangles and more defined waves.

Use a Leave-In Conditioner

Another tip? Use a leave-in conditioner regularly. This will help keep coarse strands hydrated without weighing them down or making them greasy.

Prep Your Hair Properly Before Bed

Alrighty then folks! Moving onto our next set of tips:

Sleep on Silk Pillowcases

Get yourself some silk pillowcases! Not only are they gentle on hair (and skin!), but their smooth texture helps minimize frizz and breakage while you sleep.

Braid Your Hair Before Bed

Braiding before bed is an age-old trick for achieving soft wavy locks overnight (cheers grandmas everywhere) . Simply part your dry (!) hair into sections , braid each section tightly (!!) starting a couple inches from the roots and leaving approximately one inch unbraided at end (gasp such detail!! ). In the morning, undo the braids with fingers rather than pulling through with comb; otherwise…you’ll undo everything!

(Woah woah hold your horses — make sure it is 100% dry otherwise you’re asking for trouble)

Use Curl Creams and Oils

Additionally, using curl creams or oils can help enhance waves and prevent frizz. Work a small amount of product through damp hair before braiding for maximum benefits.

Heat Styling Can Be Your Best Friend

Now as much as we suggest embracing your natural coarse hair texture, adding a little heat styling doesn’t harm anyone.

Choose the Right Curling Iron

Invest in a good quality curling iron with adjustable heat settings! A smaller barrel size helps create tighter curls while larger ones can give bigger ‘bouncy’ waves. But be careful not to damage the hair by keeping the temperature too high… nobody wants their locks fried!

Apply Heat Protectant Spray

Always apply an appropriate heat protectant spray to minimizes breakage; if .. take it from me (panic attack) remembering how my mom always used to warn me about going out without a jacket on — I didn’t listen (except maybe now…). Similarly here, when using hot heating tools use protection folks!

Don’t Touch Your Hair Too Much … Really?

You read that right beloved fellow humans …

Resist The Temptation To Fiddle With Your Locks

Resist the temptation to keep touching your head throughout the day.. Yes yes … there may be some anxious fiddlers among us but frequent touching/root fluffing results in loss of definition of those pretty wave-patters that you so patiently waited overnight to see through (duh!) .

Avoid Ponytails Sometimes?

Also because ponytails are bound at one point they end up denting any amazing style which we worked hard enough start out with?! So depending upon what look you want today/tonight, loose hair is overall just cool kid vibes. Yew!!!!

Experiment With A Variety Of Techniques

Last but not least is our experimental phase! Try out and play around with a few different techniques until you find what works best for your unique hair.

Experiment With Different Hairstyling Products

For example, experiment with various texturizing or sea salt sprays to add extra grit and wave. Or try applying mousse before braiding to increase curl definition and hold. Road less traveled eh (wink wink).

Use Various Hair-Brushes And Combs

Try different combs and brushes for your specific hair type — it can make itself worthwhile … trust me on this one folks!

So there you have it – a few tips & tricks that’ll help you achieve those sought after waves in no time (applaud applaud) ! Just remember fellas … love the locks ya’ got… because really?? They’re already fab enough as they are :)) .
