How to get rid of folliculitis on face?
Folliculitis, or the inflammation of hair follicles, can be a pesky and sometimes painful condition to deal with. When it occurs on your face, it can be especially frustrating. It’s not always easy to know how to get rid of folliculitis on face, but fear not! We’ve got you covered with some tips and tricks for banishing this annoying skin issue.
What Causes Folliculitis on Face?
Before we dive into the remedies, let’s talk about what causes folliculitis in the first place. Essentially, when bacteria enters a hair follicle and causes an infection or inflammation, that’s when you end up with folliculitis.
There are several things that can increase your risk for developing facial folliculitis:
- Using dirty razors
- Having oily skin
- Wearing tight clothing or equipment that rubs against your face (like helmets)
So now that we know what causes facial folliucltis , let’s discuss how to get rid of it…
Keep Your Skin Clean
The first step in getting rid of any kind of acne-related issue is making sure you’re keeping your skin clean. This means washing twice a day with a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil or Neutrogena.
And if you’re prone to sweating during exercise or other activities throughout the day? Be sure take time keep wiping sweat off from around any affected areas as soon as possible – sweat left lingering there won’t help matters any!
Wash Your Razor Often
As mentioned earlier: Dirty razors = increased risk for facial floliculis development! Keeping your razor sharp and clean should NOT BE NEGLECTED
You don’t have to throw away after each use – just give it a quick rinse under hot water (or better still disinfectant/sanitizer) or dip it in alcohol before and after each use.
Stop Picking at Your Face (Trust us, it’s Not Helping)
For some of us this is easier said than done!
Pimples are tempting targets for picking but refrain from touching them as much you can- that means no popping, squeezing or continuous rubbing your face.
This can have the opposite effect to what you want – while it may seem like relief in the moment, frequent manipulation of skin breakouts creates bigger openings which causes inflammation and additional infections setting back any progress made towards eliminating your folliculitis issue.
Get a Prescription Topical Treatment
If basic housekeeping steps fail to produce desired results within 4 – 6 weeks of consistent effort , then two popular prescription topicals could work: Retin A Microgel OR Clindamycin topical lotion but only availbale through a Dermatologist
Don’t Be Discouraged. You Can Beat Folliculitis on Face!
Folliculitis sucks, plain and simple! Sure more familiar facial issues papules/blackheads/whiteheads might not make life easy either still they are less irritating.
