How to finish lice from hair?

Let’s face it, lice are the absolute worst. They’re tiny, they breed like bunnies on steroids and once they get into your hair, good luck getting rid of them. Those little suckers cling onto every strand of hair like a toddler to their favorite toy.

Don’t worry about calling in an airstrike just yet – there are plenty of natural ways to eliminate lice without having to resort to chemical warfare. From covering yourself in olive oil (seriously), taking showers with apple cider vinegar or dousing your scalp with tea tree oil – we’ve got you covered.

So let’s roll up our sleeves and get down deep into that infested head!

The Preparations

Before diving right in there, here’s what you need:

  1. A fine-toothed nit comb: If you don’t have one handy then may I recommend running outside and pulling out the metal bristles off a joint weed rake.
  2. Carrier Oil: You can use any carrier oils such as coconut oil, olive oil or even castor oil will work just fine!
  3. Essential Oils: Let’s focus on some clarifying essential oils such as peppermint/spearmint/chamomile/tea tree/lavender/eucalyptus/coconut/sunflower etc.
  4. Fresh towel
  5. Plastic shower cap

Most importantly make sure all these things are available within reach before beginning phase two- Mission ‘Deep-Clean’.

Phase 1 – Loose Ends

First things first- keep things manageable by focusing on removing smaller debris:

Brushing
Start by brushing through dry hair thoroughly before starting washing/treating process. Can also remove knotting using this means afterwards. You definitely don’t want any more knots adding complication during treatment session .

Pump some Rastafarian vibes
Use a Spray bottle of warm water to moisten hair just enough so its damp. Then use good ol’ Jamaican Black Castor Oil on a cotton pad and coat the scalp in it.This will slowly condition your scalp, and loosen any pesky flakes that have attached themselves . Simply scrunch your fingers through the hair helping gets some loose debris coming out.

Wash those flakes off effectively
Using lukewarm water, coconut/sunflower based shampoo, rinse rinse rinse. Repeat if needed until clear (leave no stone unturned)(errmm…its flake we’re talking about..you know what i meant!)

Phase 2 – Treatment Time!

Okay now comes, the actual treatment part .

Using Carrier Oils

Choose from one of these oils: Jojoba oil/ Coconut Oil/ Olive Oil /Argan.It doesn’t matter which one you choose since they’re all equally capable of suffocating lice.Considering how sneaky lice can be , lets make sure they don’t avoid any particular carrier oil too:
– Coconut oil – rich with fatty acids that are effective against lice.
– Neem oil – stimulates growth while eliminating parasites.
– Lavender oil – notorious for its anti-parasitic properties

Mix at least two types then gently apply evenly to sections, next focus massaging most into roots creating a protective barrier around each strand.Even if there is no eggs or dead bugs found within hair follicle created walls ,then consider this as an extra precautionary measure.Lather up head till saturated thoroughly.Comb through using fine-toothed nit comb so as to promote maximum coverage. When done tie up now coated hair with plastic shower cap for close to 6 hours.

Essential Oils

A number of recommended essential oils are also available. But before diving right in, it’s important not to directly apply essential oils to the scalp without a carrier oil. Here are some examples:

  1. Tea tree oil: While it may have strong anti-bacterial properties, tea tree can just as easily irritate your scalp or even worse, dry out skin.Care must be taken diluting together with another carrier oil.
2.Peppermint Oil-Literally makes hair smell minty-fresh while also preventing new lice from appearing
3.Lemon Eucalyptus Oil- has potent and effective in discouraging future insect activity around you.

Mix two types of oils apply small amounts till all covered .Avoid the eye area specifically if you’ve gone for peppermint/spearmint /tea-tree options.Next, Comb through hair whilst applying this mixture preferably using fine-toothed nit comb. Cover coated head with shower cap for at least 6 hours. After remove cap & rinse thoroughly (including conditioner ), re-comb again taking one inch sections removing any nits found. If still unsure about effectiveness repeat process…

Phase 3 – Offense!!

This part is where we turn up on those bugs! yeah !!!

Vinegar

Vinegar’s acid PH is known to loosen/fade away glue used by both live/dead lice.So grab that kitchen staple right now!
Combine equal parts apple cider vinegar/water into a spray bottle , lightly dampen the hairs then cover up head with plastic showercap for close to an hour.Rinse off gently shampooing twice ! once everything rinsed.Every bit counts when trying defeat these pests so take necessary precautions .

Clear Everyone who Comes Close

Chances are high That anyone who’s been near infested person could end being infected too. That’s why one should consider washing bedding/clothing immediately especially items that have come into contact with your locks.Make sure towels ,combs etc under heavy inspection washed out immediately after initial use

Phase 4 – Prevention

Now that the infestation is essentially a thing of the past, we need to take action so it never EVER happens again.

Oiling Regularly

Oils that contain Spilanthes acmella has been said act like mini land mines when comes to head lice ,which means plant extracts used in hair products or even straight up oil e.g, Olive Oil Sprays which can be dispersed upon required areas preventing any unwanted new bugs on ya.Who would have thought that bugs dont enjoy extra virgin olive oil!! .

Rosemary Spray

If lucky enough owning rosemary plants add the leaves inside water pan adding them with lavender/lemongrass based essential oils. When ready months later just use as preventative measures by spraying once over brush before every combing. Can also do wonders acting like detangler making removal process less stressful quicker.

Conclusion

While getting rid of lice requires some serious dedication,it isn’t rocket science. Now that you’ve got these tips under your belt, you won’t feel self-conscious at those upcoming job interviews or dates…plus now you might become legendary if ever someone needs to know how to combat lice ( yep told ya..you’re kinda a big deal now!).

Remember– always stay COMBative!
