How to cure cough cold and sore throat?

Do you feel like your throat has been rubbed with sandpapers again? Is your nose running like an uncontrolled river in the monsoon season once again? Believe me, I know how it feels. We have all experienced cough, cold and sore throat once upon a time in our lives. However, there’s no need to worry because we can combat these pesky ailments together.

First things first – what causes coughs, colds and sore throats?

Before we move on to treating these maladies, let’s take a moment to understand what actually causes them. A majority of the times when we fall ill is due to viruses or bacteria that enter our bodies through contact with contaminated surfaces or through inhalation of airborne particles.

Fun fact: A sneeze can travel up to 100 miles per hour! Imagine having this superpower!

Now that you know why you fell sick (thanks for taking my word for it), let’s dive into how one can cure it.

The Golden Elixir – Hydration

When caught up with potential symptoms of upper respiratory illness such as coughing or congested sinuses, reach out for water not juice, herbal tea(no milk)… H20!

Our respiratory system is greatly impacted by dehydration; therefore sipping warm fluids will keep your vocal cords hydrated while loosening mucus secretions in order alleviate discomfort from coughing, sneezing etc..

Take your body weight (in pounds) divide by two = oz/day of water consumption target eg/150 lbs would reflect (75oz H2O goal). If fluids aren’t helping much then head onto medications suggested below.
Pro-tip: Keep extra tissues within easy access because hydration treatment will also increase urination frequencies!

The Lusty Gargle

One of the most effective treatments to alleviate sore throats is gargling saltwater. Take a cup of warm water, mix 1/2 teaspoon salt and gargle in intervals up to twice per hour or as needed.

With every single sip, try spicing things up by adding honey and freshly squeezed lemon juice (rich vitamin c source). Or perhaps tequila; no judgment here.

Honey-Lemon Syrup

I’m not talking about some store-bought syrup loaded with artificial sweeteners in a bottle – Just take raw honey & fresh quality citrus fruits, pour one forth-cup boiling water over it while stirring simultaneously till consistency evens out. It’s said that this homemade remedy may serve well for children (if you have permission from spec healthcare practitioner) too.

Over – The – Counter Treatments

Let’s be honest- sometimes all bodily measures will fail us, so might consider bringing attention towards medications. Here are several options:
• Acetaminophen
• Ibuprofen
• Decongestants
(Talk to your doctor before trying any new medication)

But First… Prevention

‘Prevention is always better than cure’. Remember how people used to say ” stop advertising that I won’t get sick,”?

Tip # 1: When coughing or sneezing, cover mouth/nose with disposable tissue rather than someone else’s hoodie sleeve or palm.(alternative would be into elbow pit) .

On buses/trains regularly exposing yourself amongst newer germs entering from different sources ? Try taking a face mask filter particulate respirator w/resistance valve KF94 available at affordable prices! #cheapsafteymeasures101

Natural Remedies—“Careful!! Sharing TMI insert giggles

Whether its Folk remedies passed down through generations, crazy medical theories (never follow Dr. Oz’s wart removal toadstool approach) or naturopathic/herbal supplements, consider some of the following natural remedies:

  • ginger root extracts
  • chamomile tea
  • chicken broth (Grandma was right!)
  • Vitamin c rich diet

Note: Try sticking with reputable dispensary/ well known health center whilst seeking a naturopathic alternative.

So, are you sure when to call a doctor? —

Now it’s time for self-diagnosis and admission that it’s possible that not all ailments can be cured by prevention, natural remedies alone. Here is how one knows when their condition has progressed beyond conventional over-the-counter treatment:
• A sickly feeling in chest tht persists 2-3 weeks without improvement
• Cough similar to child barking Seal
• Straining at Breathful conversation /movement
You’re the best judge on this – listen attentively towards advocate ‘yourself’! Don’t forget your insurance cards as tools just in case. #StayHealthy
