How to check your temperature?

Before we begin with the guide, let’s acknowledge something crucial – temperature checks are no longer restricted only to doctors’ appointments. With Covid-19 wrecking havoc in our lives, keeping tabs on your body temperature is essential for all of us. However, registering the right temperature can be a bit tricky at times. So, if you’re sitting there with a thermometer and scratching your head wondering what to do next, fret not! In this article, we’ll help you become an expert in taking accurate temperature checks.

First things first

  1. Before we get started with measuring your body’s internal heatwave; it’s important to take some precautions-
  2. Never eat or drink anything hot or cold before taking a reading.
  3. Avoid smoking and exercising at least 15 minutes before using the thermometer.
  4. Remove any blankets or excessive clothing that might increase body heat.
2.Trust me; these steps will make life better for both you and that piece of metal in your hand.

The Traditional Way

Ah-ha! The good Ole mercury thermometer days when checking temperatures meant playing peak-a-boo under someone’s tongue while they held their breath harder than Timmy Turner from Fairly Odd Parents did around his evil babysitter Vicky. Here is how its done:

1.Wash yours and patients hands(oh yeah,, I won’t allow any unsanitized surfaces here)
2.Shake down (forcefully) the glass tube until it reaches below 95 degrees Fahrenheit(celcius who?? We don’t use him here). It should show less than 90 degrees Celsius also!
3.Placeunderpatient’stongueforapproximately5minutesthenreadtheunmovingmercurylevel(it may seem like forever but endure!)
4.If mercury has crept way above 98°F (36°C), seek medical attention!
5.Keep out of children’s reach at all times.
6. To dispose of it, here is what to do- call your local hazardous waste facility or take it back to the place you bought it from.

The Modern Way

Technology has brought a revolution in measuring body temperature with contactless IR thermometers( I know wow right?)These types have gained immense popularity during the pandemic as they don’t require human touch! We have two types ;forehead(Oh boy this makes me feel like an alien abductee) and ear (praise be to our Eustachian tube!). So which one suits you?

Forehead Thermometer

1.Turn off your phone(distractive little guy)
2.While these infra-red thermometers are not using harmful radiation, keeping them away from sunshine(the uv rays could affect its calibration).
3.Pointthe gadget betweenyourbrows (I see dead people,Bruh), press that button then Pull away after a second Time Saved!!
4.Wait impatiently for readings to appear on screen
5.Normally,youneedtoholdthis 2cmfrom skin surface(can we say social distancing again?)

Ear Thermometer

1.Also turn off your phone(bullies need not interrupt)
2.TheearcanalisthetargetspotfortheInfraRED. Point and shoot towards internal canal (I told u about touching 😉)and wait one second, yes only one.And voila!

When To Look Out For Errors?

Now before my friend argues: “my doctor said i’m a hot-blooded creature” Let’s clear up some misconceptions-

1.With digital no-touch devices,a generally accepted error range is approximately ±0.5°C or±0.9°F (Gasp, did I hear that right?)
2.With mercury no-contact heat detecting: hold up!” It’s tricky“. Mercury thermometers can take anywhere between10-14minutes to get an accurate reading(No you bossy little brat, it won’t be rushed!).
3.To minimize errors; always cross-check your weight and age inputs too.

Tips And Tricks To Try At Home

1.Taking Your Temperature Correctly
– Don’t compare your temperature with someone else’s. Each body has a unique internal thermostat.
– If you’ve been crying or had anything pressed against your forehead, give at least five minutes before measuring to avoid inaccuracy.
– Use the thermometer consistently on either ear or forehead for accuracy comparisons.

2.Accessing Your Body State at other times

If a fever feels like staging its own mini performance outside of just the typical chills and headaches, use these tips:
– If possible; Use a fan/cool cloth while in bed(non-freezing temperatures people;)).
– Staying hydrated is key! Drink lots of water or herbal tea.
– Aim for light meals-high fiber fruits work best!

So there you have it folks—the simplest guide to testing what burns inside from yours truly. Remember though, if fever persists please go see a doctor! There are many reasons why we might get hot under collar or maybe white coat syndrome
