How to brew different types of tea?

If there’s one thing I can’t live without, it’s tea. It’s not just a drink; it’s a way of life. And as someone who takes their herbal infusions seriously, I’ve spent years experimenting with different brewing methods and blends to find my perfect cuppa. So whether you’re looking for something classic or exotic, this guide has got you covered.

The Basics: How to Brew the Perfect Cuppa

Before we get into the specifics of each variety, let’s go through some general tips on how to make a great brew:

Use Good Quality Water

I don’t mean to be snobbish about this, but good quality water is essential for making good-quality tea. If your tap water tastes gross or strongly chlorinated, consider investing in filtered water instead.

Get Your Temperature Right

Different teas require different temperatures; too hot and they’ll become bitter, too cool and they won’t release enough flavor. Invest in an electric kettle with temperature control or use a thermometer if you’re serious about getting it right (but please don’t use boiling-hot water on green tea).

Steeping Time Matters

Oversteeping can ruin even the finest loose-leaf teas, so be mindful of how long you leave them steeping. Black teas usually need around 3-5 minutes while herbal teas might take up to 10 minutes.

Don’t Skimp on Tea Amounts

You can blame British tea-drinking culture for putting us all onto teabags that encourage skimping out when it comes down to quantities ‘a bag per mug’. For most loose-leaf varieties though- one teaspoon per cup should do the trick.

Now that we’ve cleared out some basics let’s delve deeper specific types of tea!
