How much frontline per pound?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how much frontline to give my furry pal. As a loving pet owner, it’s crucial that we keep our pets free from ticks and fleas. But the real question is – how much frontline should you be using? In this article, we’ll explore everything there is to know about frontline for dogs and cats.

What is Frontline?

Before diving into the nitty-gritty of giving your pet some care with Frontline , let’s talk about what it really is. First things first: Frontline refers to a popular medication used by both veterinarians and animal owners alike in keeping their pets safe from flea infestations (1).

It contains two active ingredients: fipronil (which helps kill parasites) and S-methoprene (a growth inhibitor). These ingredients work together brilliantly in controling fleas as well as preventing new larvae from hatching out (4).

Frontline produces different types of medications catering for cats and dogs specifically so make sure double-check before purchasing!

The Dosage

The amount of frontline which we can apply to our furry pals depends on several factors like size, age or whether they have any underlying medical issues , etc; typically these are measured out based on weight limits.

While applying over-the-counter medication always ensures that you review instructions carefully prior usage !

As an example consider those below,

  • Dogs:

Typically ranging between 45-88lbs would need at least one pipette containing 2.68ml
This simply means heavier animals may require use more pipettes than lighter ones

To help better understand this concept refer below table:
| Dog Weight(lbs) Range | Amount Required |
|———————–|——————-|
| 5-22 | Single Pipette containing .67ml |
| 23-44 | Single Pipette containing 1.34ml|
| 45-88 | Single Pipette containing 2.68ml |

It should be noted that some dogs may require less than one pipette, generally a veterinarian or pet doctor can help determine exactly how
much medication is necessary.

  • Cats:

One pipette of .50 ml is typically recommended for cats esecially when they are younger say between ages of two months and up to eight weeks !

Frontline Effectiveness

Frontline has proven its effectiveness against fleas by delivering quick results in as little as an hour after application (3); however, it’s essential to note that frontline takes at least twenty-four hours for complete reduction in ticks and flea infestations (2).

Frontline for pets is one effective method of keeping your furry friend tick-free, healthy & happy. It seems like the right dosage truly depends on different factors so always consult with veterinarian before dispensing any kind of treatment .
