How long does it take a packed wound to heal?

If you’re here reading this, chances are that you’ve got a wound that just won’t heal. And no, I’m not talking about those deep wounds in your soul caused by the cancellation of your favorite TV show. This is some real-life injury we’re dealing with today folks.

As much as I’d love to magically fix all your problems with the wave of my wand, unfortunately (or fortunately), things don’t work like that. But fear not fair readers! For I am here to demystify one of life’s great mysteries – how long does it take a packed wound to heal?

Disclaimer: Before we dive in too deep and lose ourselves in medical lingo abyss, always consult with a doctor for any serious concerns or questions you may have about your health.

What is a Packed Wound?

Alright now gang listen up, cause this is where we’ll be laying down some technical terms on ya – but don’t worry! We’ll make sense outta them yet.

So what exactly is r/packingastounds’ notorious “packed wound”?

A packed wound refers to an open injury which has been filled or “packed” tightly during treatment using either gauze pads or other materials soaked in medication such as iodine or saline solution (bet ya never thought salt water could save lives didja?) The primary purpose behind packing these wounds is typically done because they are unable to close through normal means (such as stitches)~when stitches can’t be applied due and would require healing from inside out rather than outside-in %%%((((if only relationships worked like that))))%%%###… anyways moving on….

But enough science mumbo-jumbo ~let’s get cracking~!

So how long will it really take?!

To put it simply, there’s no universal answer for all types of packed wounds. Factors such as how deep the wound is and where it’s located on your body, along with factors such as age, overall health condition, medications that you might be taking & smoking status – all play a role in determining the time required for a packed wound to fully heal.

Typically speaking, medium sized cuts or gashes will take roughly around 2-3 weeks %%%(which can feel like an eternity when you’re waiting to hit up that hot tub party)%%%### . Meanwhile larger or more complex injuries may require upwards of several months before they are completely healed! Yikes!

But what if it isn’t healing as quick?

One important factoid to keep in mind while dealing with any type of injury – patience is key. It’s unreasonable – unfortunately enough -to expect every wound to heal at exactly the same pace so check in with your doc just to make sure everything really IS going smoothly!.

If things seem off though (redness increases, hotter sensation starts creeping up~ I’m not about temperatures unless its through Gucci ~or even strange odors developed), then by all means contact your doctor immediately (like pausing Netflix-show immediacy kind!). Sometimes these symptoms could signify an infection which requires further treatment before proper healing can properly begin.

Normally infections occur due improper packing techniques or insufficient cleaning supplies being used during initial accident hygiene efforts^(&&it happens we’ve ALL had those moments…“Oh no do I still have bandaids”, no judgements here^)#%#). Just give it another few days to test out—but don’t try dunking alcohol into open wounds please save those college memories..I mean stories for some other time!

What Remedies Can You Try At Home Though ?

While we always recommend medical help when necessary there are certainly ways one can assist in making our skin buddy blossom once more:

  1. Be sure to keep the wound clean, around MINIMUM twice a day – or more if circumstances require it.
  2. With clean tap water and light soap.
  3. Use sterile cotton balls or bandages for cleaning then discard them after use
  4. Change any dressing material regularly, especially IF you’ve used ointments on the wound ~this can help solidify our skin plant growth there (kind of like fertilizer in gardens know what I mean?)~ (we’ll come up with a better analogy dont worry)
  5. Do NOT pick incessantly at healing wounds! We know its so tempting yet bad & mindless habitss habits galore..Don’t do it ! Plus your cell regeneration is already working hard enough~
  6. No smoking / drinking !! This only slows healing TIME down %%%&who wants that right now?%%%###(absolutely none of us), enough said.

Well folks, we hope this post has been informative- we’re rooting for all y’all wounded warriors out there xoxo
