How long do i leave splat in my hair?

Splatoon! That’s the sound of a paintball hitting its target. Splat! That’s also the name of one of the most popular and well-known brands for semi-permanent, vivid hair color products.

You’ve finally taken the plunge and bought yourself a box of this colored goodness – but now comes the million-dollar question: how long should you leave it in your luscious locks before washing it out? Well, buckle up buttercup; we’re about to dive into some colorful explanations.

The Basics

Before we get started, let me give you a quick overview of what Splat is all about. In simple terms, Splat is a collection of vibrant hair dyes that come with bleach kits or are stand-alone coloring options meant to be used without bleach (for those who already have light-colored or pre-bleached tresses). These intense colors fade quickly compared to permanent hair dye but produce mesmerizing results while they last.

Splat formula contains funky shades ranging from electric blue to fiery reds and purples. It’s not for everyone because it can be quite an exciting change from people’s natural looks – which brings us right back on topic – timing!

Alright then… But Seriously… How LONG?!

I know what you’re thinking: ‘Spill beans already!’ Well fine then impatient reader look no further… jeez… Back on topic though – There isn’t necessarily one straightforward answer as far as time goes when using splat dye. A handful of factors can make deciding tricky:

-What shade did you choose?
-Semi-perm dyes usually work best on lighter tones
-How light/dark is your natural base color?
-Did you use their Lightening Bleach Kit beforehand?
-On average how much product was used & applied following guidelines given?

Once taken into account, with a bit of trial & error and experimentation – the optimal leave-in time becomes more apparent! I’ll break it down so you have an idea of what to expect.

Let’s go by shade – ‘Cause why not?

Splat dyes vary in colors from muted pastels to get-out-of-my-way-bright hues. The timing can differ slightly depending on the color intensity:

Light Pastel Colors

If you’ve gone for a light, bright, or pastel Shade like Mint Shake / Lavender Ombre etc., leaving it in for 35-45 minutes should suffice. Any longer could result in uneven saturation (patchiness), where some parts may appear lighter/darker than others.

Mid-Tone Vibrant Hues

Take cover because here’s where we start bringing out the boldness! If you’re using tones like Luscious Raspberries, Electric Blue or Neon Green then consider having them in your locks for around 50-60 minutes before washing them off. This lengthens the vibrancy duration considerably!

Deep Shades

Alright listen closely friends… If you’re going all Guns N’ Roses and wanna step into maximum rock n roll territory with deep black/reds/blues – this is NOT sheet music under no circumstances which means that longer exposure times won’t necessarily affect intensity but be careful because overuse can cause major damage when used beyond instructed amounts) of coloring solution (with bleach if applicable). Therefore between 70-80 min sit-time is recommended max!

So there we have it guys; easy as pie right? Just remember always stick within manufacturer guidelines specified on packaging along with regular haircare routine after application…

Wait… Hold up…

As a certified hairstylist let me tell y’all something very crucial: Please do yourself (& Your hair while at it!) a favor and carry out strand/patch tests prior main application ( like come on this is to be done with every hair dye product imo, it’s even written on their boxes ffs!) to get an insight into color outcome and by that avoid nasty allergic reactions. Even if you’ve used animal friendly products before the chemical reaction caused from getting some components mixed still poses a risk!

What happens when left in for too long?

Folks tend to think the longer they leave color in, the more vibrant & lasting results garnered will appear…not nessesirely soo!! Leaving Splat sitting after max recommended timescales can lead to unwanted side effects ranging from thickness loss due breakage all way through damage running deep both inside cuticle or cortex causing potential long-term harm.

If dye cross link protein chains, hair structure gets compromised; because what ends up happening then? 🤔 Essentially, I mean = negative impact over time so please take note ladies/gents/whoever likes fabulous hairstyles; slow and steady wins funny jokes…but that’s not relevant here!

Before You Go…

After following these tips make sure your daily showers temperature levels are kept on cooler spectrum . Shampooing should always be avoided within 24-48 hours of application as possible cause direct interruption where skin/hair adjusts newly added colored pigments,to set them properly without being interfered shortly thereafter processing completes keeping wear-time longer than normal last.. although at a less-than-animal-friendly cost environmentally speaking but hey we’ll save that topic for another day my fellow earth-lovin’ humans!

Now go ahead dear readers – have tons of fun experimenting with splat dyes knowing fully well how long you gotta keep ’em locked down onto yer mopheads till fantastic new shades showoff covered-in-video-tutorials ready hairstyles flaunting swagger induced highlights – minus costume fittings…now THAT’S worth looking out for right?!
